    'ลี อิสราเอล' (Melissa McCarthy) นักเขียนแนวชีวประวัติกำลังอยู่ในช่วงตกอับ ผลงานเล่มล่าสุดขายไม่ออก ไอเดียจะเขียนเล่มใหม่ก็ตัน งานที่ทำก็โดนไล่ออก มีปัญหาติดเหล้า แถมมีหนี้สินค้างจ่ายพอตัว ทั้งค่ารักษาแมวและค่าเช่าห้อง แม้กระทั่งนายหน้าของเธอยังเลือกแนะนำให้ปรับปรุงตัวเพื่อจะได้มีงานจ้าง แต่เธอก็ไม่สนใจ ด้วยภาระหนี้สินทำให้เธอตัดใจขายจดหมายของ แคทธารีน เฮปเบิร์น (ของแท้) ก่อนจะเริ่มเห็นลู่ทางลองปลอมจดหมายคนดังสักฉบับ พอขายได้ราคาจึงเริ่มลงทุนซื้อเครื่องพิมพ์ดีดเก่า ๆ ก่อนจะเริ่มปลอมจดหมายส่งขายรัว ๆ โดยระหว่างนั้นก็มีเพื่อนคุยเป็นเกย์ชื่อ 'แจ็ค' (Richard E. Grant) ซึ่งภายหลังก็มาเป็นคนช่วยขายจดหมายแทนเธอ

    ถ้าว่ากันตามจริงหนังแทบไม่มีอะไรเลย ก็นักเขียนปลอมจดหมายคนดังจนโดนจับได้แค่นั้นจบ แต่ระหว่างทางมันเล่าสนุกและชวนเห็นภาพ อย่างหนึ่งที่เรามั่นใจในความสามารถของลี อิสราเอล คือทักษะการเขียน ถึงแม้งานเขียนล่าสุดจะเจ๊งไม่เป็นท่า แต่เธอก็คู่ควรจะได้รับโอกาสต่อลมหายใจ ยิ่งเมื่อเห็นรายได้ของนักเขียนชายเข้าสังคมเก่งในยุคนั้นเทียบกับเงินที่เธอขอเบิกล่วงหน้าแล้ว ยิ่งทำให้เราเห็นใจเธอมากขึ้น ในสภาวะที่ตกงาน ขาดรายได้ มีหนี้สิน จะให้คน ๆ หนึ่งมีแรงเขียนงานก็ยากอยู่ หน้าที่ของตัวแทนที่ดีจึงควรจะช่วยเหลือหาทางออก ไม่ใช่แค่รอเก็บเกี่ยวตอนชิ้นงานสำเร็จ ฟังดูเหมือนแก้ตัว แต่ด้วยสถานการณ์บีบบังคับจึงทำให้ลี ก้าวเข้าสู่การปลอมจดหมาย ก่อนจะทำต่อไปเพราะรู้สึกภูมิใจกับมัน ซึ่งมันก็แอบน่าภูมิใจอยู่ที่สามารถปลอมงานเขียนคนดังได้หลากหลายขนาดนั้น

    ตลกร้ายคือลี ไม่ได้เศร้าใจที่โดนจับได้ขนาดนั้น เลเวลความรู้สึกของเธอขึ้นอยู่กับคนซื้อจดหมายจับผิดได้หรือไม่ และคำตัดสินของศาลก็ไม่ได้มองว่าการกระทำของเธอเป็นเรื่องคอขาดบาดตาย และอีกประการคือพวกค้าขายจดหมายระลึกถึงคนดังเองก็ไม่ได้น่าไว้วางใจขนาดนั้น แต่แน่นอนว่าการปลอมจดหมายเป็นเรื่องที่ผิด ลีได้รับบทลงโทษที่สมควรแก่เหตุ อันที่จริงความสามารถในการเปลี่ยนตัวตนตัวเองไปเป็นตัวตนคนอื่นเพื่อสร้างงานเขียนนี่ก็น่าจะหาตัวจับได้ยากในสายงานเขียนชีวประวัติ น่าเสียดายที่เธอเอามาใช้ผิดที่ผิดทาง ซึ่งก็อาจจะมาจากการที่คนในวงการเลือกโฟกัสนอกเหนือจากงานเขียนด้วยน่ะแหละ จนคนแบบลี ไม่มีที่ยืนที่เหมาะสม
