學校教英文時，大多時候會告訴我們they是複數，指「他們」，這是對的！但是在不知道性別的情況下，they也可用作第三人稱單數使用。事實上從十四世紀開始，英語母語人士便將they當作性別中立的單數人稱代名詞了。在此提供例句：After a student completes their coursework, they take an exam. 還有：Who is on the phone? What do they want?

由於來電者性別不明，美國人便會很自然地用they當作單數人稱代名詞，在口語上特別常見。換作正式文件，可把整個句子改為複數：Students take exams after completing their coursework. 或更正式一點說：Who is on the phone? What does the caller want?

In school, most English learners that the pronoun "they" refers to more than one person (in the plural), and that's correct! But, "they" can also be used to refer to a third person in the singular if the gender of the person is unknown. In fact, English speakers have used "they" as a gender-neutral singular pronoun since the 14th century.

Here's an example: "After a student completes their coursework, they take an exam." Or, as another example, "Who is on the phone? What do they want?" The gender of this student or caller is unknown, so an American English speaker will naturally use the singular pronoun "they," especially when speaking. If writing a formal document, they might get around this by editing the sentence to the plural, as in "Students take exams after completing their coursework," or by changing to a more formal register, as in "Who is on the phone? What does the caller want?"

也附上我在閱讀英文小說時看到的句子。

文法，

🪜 俐媽英文教室—倒裝句篇：

1️⃣ 否定副詞放句首的倒裝句：

❗️否定副詞 + be/aux + S ...❗️

當看到「否定副詞」如Never, On no account, Under no circumstances, Not until, Only, Nowhere, Seldom, Scarcely, Little...等置於句首時，後面要接倒裝句。
其倒裝的形式如同「問句」，要把be動詞、助動詞(auxiliary)放在主詞的前面。
如圖2中，Never ... had I been...，否定字Never於句首，而後面是「助動詞+主詞」(had I)形式。

2️⃣ 地方副詞放句首的倒裝句：

❗️ 地方副詞 + V + S (名詞) ❗️
❗️ 地方副詞 + S (代名詞) + V ❗️

當地方副詞如Here, There, Under the table, Across from the hotel等字出現在句首時，後面的倒裝「不是」形成問句形式，而是直接把主詞和動詞直接對倒，形成如Here comes the bus.的倒裝句。
另外，如果主詞是「代名詞」(I, you, he, she, they, we, it)，則「不倒裝」，形成如Here you are.的句子。
⚠️ 「介副詞」如away, off, up, down...放句首時，也可以形成倒裝句，如：Away fly the birds.
而圖3的Off you go. 也是一個例子。Off是介副詞，you是代名詞，因此置於句中不倒裝。

【Materials】
· Photographs printed on plain paper
· Hand-laminating film B6 size
· ruler
· Scissors
· bat
· water
· Cutting board
· utility knife
· message card
· Glue stick

【Steps】
1. Open the laminating film and put the photo in so that no air enters.
2. Cut the film to a size larger than the photo and peel off the top film.
3. Immerse 2 in a bat filled with water, rub the photo and remove paper fiber.
4. When the moisture on the photo dries, sandwich again in the film. At this time, laminate the side that the paper fibers were removed from. Sandwich using a ruler so that air does not enter again, cut it into the size of the photograph, peel off the top film.
5, Cut out 2 cards so that they look like a frame. Sandwich the photograph with the card and glue.

【用意するもの】
・普通紙に印刷した写真
・手張りラミネートフィルム　B6サイズ
・定規
・はさみ
・バット
・水
・カッティングボード
・カッター
・メッセージカード
・スティックのり

【作り方】
1.ラミネートフィルムを開け、空気が入らないように写真を挟む。
2.写真と一回り大きいサイズにフィルムを切り、上のフィルムを剥がす。
3.2を水を入れたバットに浸け、写真をこすって紙繊維を落とす。
4.写真の水気が乾いたら、再びフィルムに挟む。この時、紙繊維を落とした面をラミネート加工する。再び定規で空気が入らないように挟み、写真の大きさに切り、上のフィルムを剥がす。
5.2枚のカードを枠になるように切り抜く。カードで写真を挟みのりで接着し完成です!!
