I didn’t meet my father until I was 6 years old. My parents had a comfortable, middle-class life in Shanghai, or as close as you could get under communism. But they always wanted to live overseas, and just before I was born, my dad came to Sydney to set things up. I don’t know why, but in the end, my mother and I didn’t join him until I was 6.

I ended up having to move school 3 times before I came to Balwyn Primary School, which was relatively multicultural.

【<華爾街日報> 開箱實測一個月心得】

「如何迅速成為一名投資邊緣人？」

對我來說，看國外新聞是很稀鬆平常的事情，因為這是做美股投資非常重要的基本功。

不是說台灣的新聞不好，但畢竟是經過翻譯的第二手、第三手資訊了，偶爾會遇到翻譯的品質不好、或者記者斷章取義的狀況，對投資人來說資訊判讀錯誤的風險其實很大，一失足成千古恨。

所以我往常的習慣是，當聽到一個新資訊/消息後，再 google 國外的新聞作原文吸收，然後相互比較過濾，留下正確的資訊。

前些日子， 風傳媒 找上門來，詢問我願不願意體驗一下完整訂閱版的<華爾街日報>？

事實上，過去的我幾乎不會花錢在這類付費專欄/媒體上，畢竟我對自己查證資料、過濾雜訊、媒體識讀的能力有信心，不太需要花錢請別人幫忙整理，不過現在免費的都送上門來了，到嘴的肉不吃白不吃，當然說好！

科普一下：<華爾街日報>(WSJ) 創立於 1889 年，是美國著重在金融、商業領域的龍頭報導，目前由道瓊集團(就是推出道瓊工業指數的那個)所擁有。在媒體界以精實嚴肅的報導風格聞名，業界給予的評論是：「其調查型報導，往往保持著高度品質和挖掘精神」，目前由道瓊集團(就是推出道瓊工業指數的那個)所持有，在美國是重量級的金融經濟報紙。

直接說結論：「華爾街日報的品質真的挺高的！」

其英文文章相當嚴謹，行文流暢，讀起來暢快絕頂。在這段時間的體驗中，我的英文能力真的有提升，並且也認識到過去沒留意過的專有名詞。單就英文學習的角度來說，算是很不錯的教材資源，同時又可以增長金融、國際時事等知識。

我還滿喜歡「Opinion (名家解讀)」專欄的，由數十位的華爾街日報編輯/特約作家會定期撰寫特定領域的專業新聞。這些人平常就深耕於此，關注於世界各地大小事，然後以流暢的文筆撰寫出客觀資訊及主觀思維。對我來說，看文章除了吸收資訊，若能從中學習思維會更好，而這些名家解讀的文章確實相當不錯，以下點出幾位名家，理解一下在上面撰寫專欄作家等級是怎麼樣：

✍️ Gerard Baker：華爾街日報總編輯
✍️ Andy Kessler：《一個投資分析師的告白－華爾街牛肉場》的作者
✍️ Peggy Noonan：《被遺忘的人: 1930年代經濟大蕭條新史》作者
✍️ Mary Anastasia O'Grady：專門撰寫拉丁美洲的新聞資訊

除此之外，還有「World(國際專區)」，專門整理各大洲/國家的資訊。

舉例來說，上面有 China (中國)，可以在第一時間掌握到和中國的投資資訊。更重要的是，會從美國人的觀點/思維角度來看！像最近中概股鬧得沸沸揚揚，我一方面從中國媒體看看大陸的觀點，同時也從華爾街日報上看看美國的觀點，其實會發現有趣的異同之處。

還有最近八月中鬧得沸沸揚揚的阿富汗事件，華爾街日報上有 Middle East (中東) 的專欄做一系列的完整報導，我是直接在上面吸收，算是最完整也最第一手的資料。台灣媒體雖然有報導這件事，但幾乎 99% 都是翻譯來的，更糟的是還東翻一篇、西翻一篇，資訊零零散散。在阿富汗這件事上，先看完華爾街日報後，再來看台灣媒體的整理，資訊吸收的體驗上真的差滿多的。(廢話，人家可是要付費訂閱的 XD)

如果你對自己的英文沒信心，上面也有提供中文翻譯跟日文翻譯的版本可以切換。但我還是建議看英文版的會最好，資訊最完整也最清楚，並搭配 Google 翻譯來協助閱讀。

以投資的角度來說，完整版的<華爾街日報>有許多市面上找不到的文章及私密資訊，挺對我的胃口。

當你能取得別人拿不到的資料時，就更容易站到「少數人」那一邊。

平常多數台灣人都在看差不多的資料，都在討論差不多的事情，很難會有什麼競爭力。

因此我更寧可成為少數 1% 的邊緣人，去看多數人都沒在看的文章，吸收更第一手完整的資訊，這樣才能凝聚出與眾不同的 insights (洞見)。

在投資這件事上，我挺喜歡成為邊緣人、站在少數那邊。
