貢獻社會有很多講法，可以說to make a difference，也可以直接的說contribute to society，或者make a contribution to society。例句：As a city councillor, she is ashamed of not having made much of a contribution to her community. 作為一個區議員，她對自己沒有向社區做出很大貢獻感到羞恥。
（留意：很多同學以為society（社會）一字前面要加上the，其實多數情況society一字前面也無需加上the的。）
既然說contribute to society就可以講到貢獻社會的意思，為什麼要講make a cotribution呢？原來make a contribution也可以表示捐款，例句：The tycoon made a generous contribution to the Community Chest. 那個富商慷慨地捐了一筆可觀的錢給公益金。
