歐威爾就是寫《1984》和《動物農莊》的作者George Orwell。以他為名的形容詞就是在描寫《1984》書中的內容：由政府所控制的宣傳機器、全面操控社會上的訊息、侵犯個人隱私、對國家與領袖絕對服從及崇拜，以及進行嚴厲的社會控制。
最簡單的理解，Orwellian的意思就是「反對自由社會」。

忙碌的一天，深夜下起雨來。

在開庭審訊期間的某個令人疲憊的夜晚，他帶著紅酒去找女主角，兩人一起喝酒。
大律師說他自己為什麼喜歡好酒：我想到許多壞人卻擁有那麼多好的東西...

所以，我們如何能「虧待」自己呢？
光是為了這個原因，就要再喝上一杯，而且一定要過得比那些「壞人」都好才行啊。
