🇭🇰 Studio City by Cali-mex is the latest concept to open at Causeway Bay's Food Street at Fashion Walk, billed as one that fuses Californian cuisine and traditional Mexican cooking with a creative touch. Here, we tasted its taco selections, including the Carne Asada with USDA beef which was fair, while the pulled pork rendition felt heavily-salted. Meanwhile, its Nachos Grande was an oversized serving; surprisingly loaded with ample ingredients including guacamole, jalapeno and melted cotjia. Finally, from its big plates category, the French yellow chicken cooked in Mexican beer was nicely-grilled but short on crispiness, while the Chitpole baby back ribs was once again a sodium-heavy affair. Designed by JJ Acuna Bespoke, Studio City's vibe of an energetic LA downtown is vividly present, but the quality of dishes were not; and coupled with the level of customer service, felt far short from what we'd expect from this popular restaurant chain.
