Wilson呀! 瑞士領事館好想揾你！ 瑞士駐北京領事館今日出咗個好得意嘅聲明，以中英文指出留意到近幾日好多响中國嘅媒體引述一個「所謂」瑞士生物學家嘅新聞，聲明好客氣咁話，好遺撼呢個係假新聞，因為根據記錄，根本無一個叫"Wilson Edwards"嘅瑞士公民，生物科學界亦無人用呢個名發表過學術文章，而且呢個"Wilson"嘅FB同Twitter响2021年7月24號先註冊，仲要係得一個post，三個freind。 不過瑞士駐北京領事館用官方Twitter發布呢個聲明嘅言詞就mean同嚴厲好多喇， "Looking for Wilson Edwards, alleged (Swiss) biologist, cited in press and social media in China ver the last several days. If you exist, we would like to meet you! While we are still trying to understand the alleged functionality of the quantum realm, let’s take a moment and appreciate nature’s work of art.

In light of the article that was published in The Straits Times today on the rise of body positivity in Singapore, I thought I’d share some reflections. I can’t speak for others, I can only speak for myself. Body Positivity has always been at its core not just about self love, but of creating a space for the voices and stories of marginalised individuals to be shared. It’s a community-led movement by fat, queer, people of colour, and people who live with disabilities to allow for them to share in safe spaces how they were denied respect, or treated differently because of their identities. In short, it’s about allowing people to live as they are. What began from an underground movement has now moved into public eye on social media, via Influencers and brands (some well meaning) who have leveraged on this wave of focus on self-love to find acceptance. Admittedly, this is when I learnt of this movement and started my own journey. I just want to make it abundantly clear that at the end of the day, this is not just about self-love, it is about overall acceptance and understanding of people and situations I may not currently understand. This is a process. Social justice is such a dirty word these days, but the objectives are pure. Treat others with respect. Question your prejudices and biases. Challenge your understanding of the world. Embrace a different story so long as someone is telling it earnestly. Listen. Let’s keep sharing our own stories. We don’t have to let others control the stories of our lives. We control the narrative. We own our struggles, our pain, our triumphs and our progress. When people talk about their own attempts to exercise or diet their pain (fatness) away and start a debate about how obesity shouldn’t be glorified, this is what I have to say. You cannot compare suffering and you are free to live by your rules if it works for you. But you should not shackle someone else to the rules you chose to follow so that you can compare someone’s suffering to your own. I repeat, you cannot compare suffering. You own your pain, your triumphs and your progress. Nothing can take that from you, much less this alleged “glorification of obesity”.
