1) Nerve-wracking（とても緊張感がある）
=================================
　
nerve は「緊張」、wrack は「苦しめる」を意味することから、nerve-wrackingは人をひどく緊張させたり、心配させることを意味します。極度の不安や心配が原因でイライラしたり、ストレスを感じたりするニュアンスがあり、「神経が疲れる」と訳すこともできます。この表現は、____ is nerve-wracking.（〜はすごく緊張する）のように空欄に緊張する対象が入ります。
　
✔ちなみにNerve-rackingとスペルすることもありますが、どちらを使ってもOKです。
　
＜例文＞
　
Doing a speech in English in front of many people is nerve-wracking.
（大勢の前で英語でスピーチをするのはすごく緊張します。）
　
Waiting for the test results to come back can be really nerve-wracking.
（試験の結果が返ってくるのを待つのって本当に神経が疲れるよね。）
　
I just got back from my first job interview. It was pretty nerve-wracking.
（ちょうど今、初めての仕事の面接から戻ってきました。すごく緊張しました。）

2) What was it famous for?（何で有名だったっけ？）
=================================
　
友人との会話中に、話題に上がったお店の名前や駅の名前が出てこない時は、日本語では「あのお店の名前は何だっけ？」「どの駅だったっけ？」のように問いかけますが、英語では「What was ____?」のように問いかけます。この表現は、相手に質問をしているというよりは自分に問いかけている感じで、例えば、「あの場所の名前は何だっけ？」は “What was the name of that place?”のように表現します。
　
✔その他、「どこだったっけ？」は「Where was it?」、「いつだったっけ？」は「When was it?」のように言います。
　
＜例文＞
　
What was the name of the restaurant we went to last week? Oh yeah, Denny’s!
（先週行ったレストランの名前は何だったっけ？あ、そうだデニーズ！）
　
If you want to get on the bullet train you should go to…ah, which station was it? Oh, Shinagawa station!
（新幹線に乗りたいんだったら、あの駅に行くといいよ。えーと、どの駅だったかな？あ、品川駅だ！）
　
I went to a really beautiful temple in Kyoto. What was the name of that temple? I think it’s called Kiyomizu-dera.
（昨日、京都で素敵なお寺に行きました。お寺の名前は何だったかな。多分、清水寺だったと思います。）

3) Pass on（〜を遠慮する）
=================================
　
pass on は「やめておく」や「遠慮する」を意味する表現です。特に相手の誘いに対し「遠慮しておくよ」とやんわり断るときに使える口語表現で、友達や同僚だけでなく、目上の人や年長者に対しても使える便利なフレーズです。例えば、「カラオケは遠慮しておきます」は「I’ll pass on karaoke.」と言い、pass on の後に遠慮する対象が入ります。
　
✔ちなみに、「I’ll pass.」だけでも「遠慮します」を意味します。
　
＜例文＞
　
I’ll pass on dinner tonight. I still have some work I need to finish up.
（まだ終わらせないといけない仕事があるので、今夜の食事は遠慮しておきます。）
　
There are too many people in line. Let’s pass on it this time.
（並んでる人が多すぎる。今回はやめておこう。）
　
If I were you, I would not pass on that opportunity.
（私だったらそのチャンスを逃さないね。）

4) Signature food（代表的な食べ物）
=================================
　
signatureと聞くと、「サイン(署名)」を思い浮かべる人も多いと思いますが、この単語には「特徴的な」や「代表的な」といった意味もあります。地域の特産品やお店の看板料理、または友達が作る得意メニューなどをsignature food/dishと表します。また食べ物に限らず、特徴的なスタイルやファッションなど、その人独自のスタイルを表す時にも使われます。
　
＜例文＞
　
You have to get the four cheese pizza here. It’s their signature dish.
（ここの４種のチーズピザを頼まないと。ここの看板メニューだよ。）
　
He’s always had those bright red glasses. That’s his signature look.
（彼は昔から真っ赤な眼鏡をかけていました。彼独自のスタイルです。）
　
Of course I remember the “Tornado”. That was Hideo Nomo’s signature move.
（もちろん、トルネードを覚えているよ。あれは野茂英雄選手の得意技だったからね。）

5) Delicacy（珍味）
=================================
　
フォアグラやキャビア、エスカルゴなど、高級で珍しい食べ物をdelicacyと言い、特にその国でしか食べられない珍しい食べ物に対して使われます。ちなみに日本語では気配りがない人を「デリカシーがない」と言いますが、このカタカナ英語は delicate から成り立った表現で、ここで紹介しているdelicacyとは意味が異なります。
　
＜例文＞
　
Have you had “shirasu” before? It’s a Japanese delicacy. Try a bite.
（しらすって食べたことある？日本の珍味なんだけど、一口食べてみなよ。）
　
I get that this is a delicacy in this country but I can’t eat it.
（これがこの国の珍味なのは分かるけど、私には無理だよ。）
　
This dish is really popular in this prefecture. It’s a well known delicacy.

Everyone, I mean most of people, are having challenging time I know, but please, if you’re still able to post what you eat/cook/have at the moment, you don’t really need that much food when staying home, please, leave some to on the wrack in the store for people who really in need, and think of those that only able to afford a bowl of plan noodles for whole family, help them by sharing some food with them if possible, stay home, be kind.

Delicious crisp golden butter cookies are perfect for kids' treat.
We made some cute rings together!

Please don't change the amount of the ingredients. They are necessary to make unbreakable cookies! hehe

Ring Cookies

Difficulty: Very Easy
Time: 30min + cooling time
Number of servings: about 40 rings

I used 3cm (1.2 inch) and 2cm (0.8 inch) round cookie cutters, then the ring became big for kids (perfect for adults). You may want to use smaller cookie cutters for kids 😅

Ingredients:
200g (1 cup) cake flour *all purpose is OK
100g (1/2 cup) unsalted butter *room temperature
60g (1/2 cup) powdered sugar (confectioner's sugar)
a pinch of salt
1/2 beaten egg *room temperature
a few drops of vanilla extract
white chocolate pen
sugar toppings

Directions:
1. Cream the butter with a whisk in a bowl. Sift in powdered sugar, add a pinch of salt, then mix well until smooth.
2. Add beaten egg little by little and mix well. Mix in vanilla extract if preferred.
3. Sift in flour then cut through with a spatula to mix and form it into one. Using a plastic wrap, spread out the batter into a flat sheet. Put in the fridge to set for 30 minutes.
4. Cut out the dough while cold. When the dough becomes warm and soft, put in the fridge. Cold dough is easy to handle.
5. Bake in the oven at 170C (340F) for 12 minutes. Place the cookies on a wire wrack to cool.
6. When the cookies are cold, attach the rings using white chocolate and sprinkle with the sugar toppings. (see the video)
