In a space like social media, it feels like everything that is created is just another rendition of something that was already previously made. Superficially, this might seem like a bad thing, but I don't think that it necessarily is...⁣ ⁣ There's this phrase credited to Picasso that goes, "Good artists copy. Great artists steal," and I've been thinking a lot about how it pertains to digital creation and content strategy lately.⁣ ⁣ The nature of social media is that content, creativity, and ideas are constantly exchanged, often without due credit. ⁣ ⁣ While this frequently leads to copycats and sub-par imitations of the original, I think that the first step of imitation is actually a really important one in one's own personal creative journey.⁣ ⁣ Good artists copy. Great artists steal.⁣ ⁣ We're all invariably influenced by each other. Don’t judge a book by its cover. The seemingly harmless person can be extremely toxic, while the one who looks feisty might be a gentle sheep in disguise 😉 Most often than not, people who know us the least have the most to say about us. In fact, over the years I learnt that I should only trust my own judgment about someone after personally interacting and getting to know them instead of superficially listening to hear says about what kind of person they are. So, whenever someone tells me a “gossip” about someone new, I will always take it with a pinch of salt because I prefer to get to know him/her on a personal level before jumping to conclusions.
