(Invited Tasting) To differentiate themselves from the competition, the new-on-the-scene pizza restaurants in Singapore have worked harder and smarter to carve out a strong branding, identity and menu for themselves. Two-month-old @wildchildpizzette at 50 Circular Road (they are directly across from OCBC Centre) is a great example of when all of that comes together awesomely. The centrally-located pizzeria and bar has a solid offering but it’s no surprise given that it is opened by the same folks behind @cichetirestaurant and @barcicheti, both highly popular Italian food joints. Moreover, talk of launching a #pizzeria had been on the back burner for about 8 years (it’s been a lifelong dream of Executive Chef and Co-owner @limyewaun), so you know when the moment arrived, he was bound to make the pizzas really special. His devotion to perfecting Neapolitan-style pizzas has resulted in a very enjoyable chewy, light crust that’s moist and airy as he ferments the dough twice, and at over 60 hours each time. Aun cleverly caps them at 10-inches in diameter at Wild Child Pizzette, so it’s easy to have one all to yourself. There are 7 ready options to choose from as well as a seasonal one, but what I also love is that you can build-your-own pizza from a list of toppings too. They include: onsen egg, black olives, San Daniele ham, salsiccia (sausage meat), strachiatella and anchovies. Besides pizzas, the menu lists many other tempting “Antipizette” to share or hog to yourself. I feel the pairing, alcoholic or otherwise, by Sommelier and Co-owner @ronaldkamiyama is another strong selling point of this place. You can count on this gregarious and charming gentleman’s fun and lateral approach for interesting pours to go with whatever you plan to munch on. So without further ado, let’s run through what @huatkaliao, @gaffie07 and I had: 1. Roasted Cauliflower ($14.50++) - Decked out in coriander, mint and pistachios on creamy labneh, this was a healthy opener. It was lovely with the Rosé from Tuscany, which also complemented the... 2. Masterminded by @kenloon, @magicsquare.sg in 2018 was a radical venture. The year-long hothouse for the three young chefs he had chosen, proved a breath of fresh air for Singapore’s dining scene. While the trio - Abel Su, Desmond Shen and Marcus Leow, got properly schooled in what it takes to run a successful restaurant, many (me included) were all too happy to pay for the privilege of being their “guinea pigs” month after month. Fast forward to September 2021. After almost three years, Magic Square 2.0 has re-emerged, as a bigger and much slicker machine. Located barely a hundred metres from their original location, one look at this place and you know they mean business. And it is only the beginning, because plans are afoot to re-invest in building facilities to support food processes (fermentation, R&D etc.) all around the restaurant. Chefs Eugene (@abangkau), @jonathan_gan, @lawjiajun and Gail (@hungryatmidnight) were cherry-picked by Ken for this second edition. But the flagging-off honours belongs to alumni and mentoring Chef, Marcus Leow (@markerpenn), who is also @nakedfinn’s Head of R&D. His 9-course menu which runs from September (reserved for family and friends) to end of this October is priced at $168++ per pax (subsequent months’ will be $98++). Reservations will be purely via an online ticketing system that’s due to launch soon, so I suggest stalking @magicsquare.sg for updates. Thanks to Ken’s invitation, I booked 4 seats (they only do counter seating) and got to embark on a most exciting culinary adventure last Friday. It was almost emotional to see how much Chef Marcus has grown in every way. Talent honed with passion and dedication over time, can indeed be formidable. Here is his menu: 1. Snacks - All three dazzled. The Aori Ika (bigfin reef squid) on rice cracker with octopus stock was so creamy due to multiple tiny cuts. My fave was the choux puff made with laksa crust sandwiching confit Indian Halibut, shaved ginger flower and black pepper. The third bite, a sugar snap pea and savoury kaya tartlet, was familiar to those of us who’d visited the first #MagicSquareSg. ⬇️Continued in Comments⬇️

“I got hit.”

I believe that's the last thing any of us would want to hear from a friend/ family who got caught in a traffic accident.

Reality is, if you've been on the roads long enough, there will come a point where you'll realise accidents are inevitable, just a matter of whether it's a serious one or not.

I've had my fair share too.

In any accident, however big or small, it's important to remain calm at all times and take note of the key things you’d need to do.

✔ Check for injuries. If you notice any, call 995 immediately.

✔ Take photos of the accident scene without moving any of the vehicles involved. This is important for insurance companies and the police to help determine the cause and impact of the accident.

✔ Exchange particulars of of drivers/ riders involved. Note down the name, contact, address, vehicle registration plate details. Do also take note of the time, date and location of the accident as this would be required in the police report that you make.

✔ Regardless of whether there are any claims/ injury in an accident, you must report it to your insurance provider within 24 hours from the time of accident. This is to ensure your interests are protected at all times. If you fail to do so, not only will you stand to be at the disadvantage, you may risk losing your NCD too.

《無可救藥的浪漫》的文本，其實是在百萬樣繁瑣事同步進行時，必須要決定「這次要拍什麼？」的急切情況下，靜下來一小時，將最直覺覺得要拍的寫下來，就風風火火籌備。

「為什麼女孩想要揑死男孩？」在拍攝前，並沒有任何人提出過類似的提問；歌手、演員、團隊從沒有存疑，彷若在創作中，寫下什麼都會被執行，決定要拍什麼，不拍什麼，都不會被提問「為什麼」。

我們的美術指導張兆康，偶然會提示我，這樣觀眾明不明白？但到最後無論我決定什麼，他總是會陪伴我，貫徹始終。感謝一直互相守護的戰友 #東十八 @east_eighteen ，促成這次新的團隊組合，像這樣不問原由地互相信任著，共同創作，是無可救藥的浪漫。 

直到剪接時，我才意覺到，整個文本（潛意識）其實在透露什麼；除了畫面很美，演員演得很好；在某片爛地地虛構一個假想的星球時，原來在奮力逃逸到創作中自我拯救。  

「逃離」，可能是「面對」的其中一種方式。

生命充滿不確定性（Uncertainty），盛載各種美好與災難；情人如鏡，照出任性無度，殘缺不全的自身；每當求死慾張狂肆意反撲襲來，最能及時擁抱你的，其實是你自己。
會有方法的，你即是我，不放手，就是方法。 

話說安娜在看 7th Cut 時說，看到這幕時哭了，是否不正常？Down 即回答：「我太不正常，你也不正常」。我不肯定，這些影像背後還藏著什麼能牽動別人的可能性，但若你感到痛楚，可能是我們共生共存的證據。

阿嬤，七年了，今天是祢的告別式的日子。

小時候，
被人欺負就找祢，要被修理躲祢後面
肚子餓找阿嬤，大大小小的事都喊阿嬤

記得祢說過要等我長大。
想看我娶某，抱曾孫
我還小，但我都記得。

對不起。
祢最後那幾年，因為我的倔將跟夢想，
一直都沒機會，也不敢去見祢
甚至告別式當天，我都還在舞台上表演

直至現在都不願意面對祢走了的事實
所以擴了耳洞，告訴自己，祢一直都沒離開。

這麼多年，我仍然在同一條道路上努力著
即便祢不在了，我也希望能成為祢跟爸媽的驕傲
這樣才不會枉費當時祢等我這麼久

有好多好多事情想跟祢分享，想讓祢開心，讓祢誇獎
今年我鼓起勇氣去比賽了，第一次比賽，進了決賽
唱了這首歌給祢，雖然最後我沒唱完就哭了。
最後還拿了第七名，是祢偷偷幫我的對吧。
祢有聽到吧？

這首歌裡，有愧疚，有心疼，有不捨，有思念
現在，我可以自己錄音，自己拍影片唱給祢聽了
希望祢在天堂過得開心，我會繼續加油。
