Learning Buddhist Meditation with me! There are many ways to meditate in Buddhism. For example Zazen (Sitting) and Shakyo (Writing sutras) In my denomination; Jodo shu (Pure Land ) we chant the name of Amida Buddha aka Limitless Light Buddha. We say “Nam Amida Bu, Nam Amida Bu and repeat... which means “I devote my self to Amida Buddha.” “Nam” is the similar to “Namaste” in Hindi which means “I devote myself to you” We do this because in a sutra, Buddha says “If somebody chants my name with faith, they shall be guided to the Pure Land by Amida Buddha. So at the monk training, we chant for hours and hours... Honestly, when I started chanting at the monk training, my mind went all over. I thought, “How long do I have to chant?” “Why are we doing this for what?” but eventually my mind reached a peaceful and grateful place. I was able to let go of unnecessary excitement, anger, confusion... and felt balanced. Now when I chant on my own to feel balanced, and the stopping point is when I feel grateful and it is enough. Whatever the meditation method is, I think the purpose of meditation to let go of all the emotions, and find a balance in heart. When you meditate, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed, so don’t worry. The key is to allow these thoughts to occur, yet continue to meditate and see what happens. I see it like a cleansing of a mind. 瞑想について🧘‍♂️ 仏教の瞑想方法は色々ありますが、浄土宗では念仏を行い、南無阿弥陀仏と唱えます。 「ナム」の意味は、ヒンディー語のナマステ(私をあなたに捧げます)と似ていて(私を阿弥陀仏に捧げます)という意味です。これはお経の中に「どんな人でも信じる心を持って、阿弥陀仏の名前を唱えれば、阿弥陀仏に極楽に連れて行ってもらえる」と書いてあるという理由で、宗祖の法然上人が提唱しました。 僧侶の修行の時は毎日何時間も念仏するので、私は「あとどのくらいやるんだろう?」「なんでこんなことやらなきゃいけないんだろう?」といろいろなことを考えました。 しかしずっと念仏していると、だんだん気持ちの変化がありました。「元気で夢を目指せるって嬉しいな」とか「私のことを支えてくれている人がいっぱいいるんだな」というありがたさを感じることができました。 私は瞑想はどのような方法であっても心が安定すれば良いのだと思います。怒りや、わだかまりなどの感情を安定させることができます。 最近友人が「瞑想しようとしてもいろいろなことを考えちゃう」と私に相談してくれました。しかし私はこれは自然のことだと思います。いろいろな感情や思いをそのまま吐き出して、受け止めて、そのまま続けてみる。その先に何を感じることができるのかを見てみることのが瞑想だと思います。私にとっては心の整理整頓です。 Photo by @masakisato_ Styled by @shun_watanabe For 朝日新聞telling @telling_official Director @400aiterada Love to @jun.hrd #kodonishimura #西村宏堂 #朝日新聞telling #正々堂々

Learn about Buddhist Hanging Scroll with me 💡 “Half Golden Zendo” Zendo is a Chinese buddhist monk. The lower half of his body is golden, because he is considered a reincarnation of Amida Buddha. Zendo appeared in the dream of Honen (founder of my denomination; Pure Land Buddhism) to praise the teaching of equality. On the scroll, you can see the left person, this monk is Zendo and his lower body is golden, coming from the sky. Right side is Honen.
