ㅤ ㅤ One thousand years ago, epidemics were referred to as "鬼魅 (Oni and monsters)”. Japanese people believed that Oni and monsters brought disasters from the outer world into the real world. ㅤ On the other hand, Japanese people would enshrine and pray to them to avoid disaster. ㅤ This custom can be read in two ways: they tried to make poison drive out poison or was it the custom to expect Oni to intervene on behalf of people which originated thousands of years ago. ㅤ In the era of the pandemic, Yaman aims to re-enshrine Oni. An act of wishing disaster to pass. Tracing the customs of the Japanese people one thousand years ago, Yaman will broadcast the Oni in public places all over the world. ㅤ His intention may be to make evil drive out disaster, or to pray to Oni as part of nature’s will. ㅤ In the end this act is only the dichotomy which we have imposed on Oni. In spite of which, we just desire to be saved. ㅤ This reveals the third meaning of the act. A mirror, a reflection of humanity who have lost fear, reverence and even interest in the unknown and the outer, favouring indulgence in the inner, perspectives which satisfy the self and make the world appear a simpler place. ㅤ ㅤ #keepall #unkeepall ㅤ ㅤ 千年前には疫病は鬼魅（きみ）と表現され、”おに”や妖怪の類が異界・外界から現世に厄災をもたらすとされた。 ㅤ 一方で日本人は厄災を避ける為、収める為に”おに”や怨霊神を祀ってきた。これは毒を持って毒を制しているとも、二千年前の”おに”の名残とも解釈できる。 ㅤ このパンデミックの時代にナカヤマン。は鬼を祀ろうとしている。千年前に倣い、世界中の公共の場所で”おに”を祀ろうとしている。 ㅤ それは邪悪な鬼の力を借りて厄災と戦おうとしているのだろうか。それとも古来の日本人の神である自然意思としての”おに”に祈りを捧げているのだろうか。 ㅤ 詰まるところその行為が意味するのは、我々が二千年もの時間を掛けて”おに"に押し付けた二面性そのものでしかないのだ。それでも我々は救われること望んでいる。 ㅤ そこで生まれる三つ目の意味は、外に対しての畏怖と畏敬を失い、自らの欲望と自由と快楽を優先してきた人間が、いま改めて自身を見つめる為に置かれた鏡だと言うことである。
