今天是38婦女節
先和所有看到這篇文的女生說一句
「You are Amazing😘！」

我自己覺得當女生真的不簡單😂
不能太胖，太瘦也不好看
有個性一點會被說難搞
太單純又會被說笨
聰明一點被說強勢
隨和又會被嫌沒主見🥲

但我覺得，
這些標準都無法建立在每個女生身上啦！
因為每個人都是獨一無二的！

一個字一行

美國制憲時期最重要的文獻The Federalist Papers是開國元勳Alexander Hamilton, James Madison和John Jay合寫。但八十五篇裡，共有十二篇文章，很長一段時間不清楚誰是真正的作者。而且因為後來Hamilton代表的聯邦黨和傑佛遜的民主-共和黨政爭，身為傑佛遜弟子的Madison，是不是這幾篇文章的作者，變得有點重要。到底是那一派才這麼有見識，成為美國憲法的主要貢獻者，好像不只是意氣之爭而已。

這爭論，一直到一九六零年代，才得到統計學家的認證解決。

先是歷史學家Douglas Adair發現，雖然while和whilst兩個英文字字義相同，但Hamilton寫作，常用while，而Madison幾乎只用whilst。這發現雖然很重要，但一九五零、六零年代，電腦沒那麼發達，我們不能上網把這十二篇文章，通通收在一起，再去搜尋這兩個字出現的頻率。所以有一段時間，並沒有辦法驗證Adair的理論。

五九年的時候，哈佛Mosteller和芝大的Wallace兩位統計學家，終於把Adair的方法，用電腦做出推論。他們先請人把已知Hamilton和Madison作者的幾十篇文章，和這十二篇未知作者文章打字，「一個字一行」，然後把這些字，一個個剪下來，按字母順序排好。他們找很多人，手工作業進行了好幾個月，非常耗工。有時只是有人把門打開，風吹進來把紙吹亂，排序作業就得重來。

最後出來的英文字數目，再送進IBM的大型電腦，進行一次三千字的頻率比對。他們用了許多方法比對，最後還是Adair的「while和whilst出現的頻率」為最佳辨識方法。他們的結論是，這十二篇通通為James Madison寫就！

我寫這個小故事的目的是要說明科技進步有多迅速。五十年前純手工、耗時數月的工作，現在可以讓一個高中生一個下午就做完，生產力的提升，相當驚人。之前打敗棋王的DeepMind團隊，最近又有驚人的成果。他們用人工智慧讀唇產出電視字幕的準確度，遠超過人類專家所能達到的最好境界，又快又好。如果你知道一點機器學習，你就會知道這兩個例子，用的都是機器學習的方法，只是電腦軟硬體，在這五十年之間，進步驚人！

今年經濟學界最紅的書是Robert Gordon的The Rise and Fall of American Growth，裡面說美國最好的年代已經過了，因為生產力不會因為科技再增加多少，科技的發展已經到了一個瓶頸。很多人吹捧這書，我都認為這些人見識狹窄，根本沒有想像力，不知道未來科技的進步幅度會多大。光看著照後鏡開車，能開多遠？
