⠀
⠀
(A) Although (conj.)
⠀
although/ though/ while/ whereas/ even if/ even though⠀
⠀
⠀
(prep.)⠀
despite/ in spite of/ with all/ for all/ notwithstanding⠀
⠀
although= despite the fact that⠀
(c) even though/ even if 差異分析⠀
-⠀
even though/ although/ though⠀
但正式用法&語氣上even though > although,though比較口語,且though可作副詞用=however。⠀
⠀
e.g. (conj.)⠀
Though Joe is a teacher, she is above asking questions.⠀
Although Joe is a teacher, she is above asking questions.⠀
Even though Joe is a teacher, she is above asking questions.⠀
⠀
e.g. (adv.)⠀
Joe is a teacher. She is above asking questions, though.⠀
Joe is a teacher. She is above asking questions, however.⠀
/⠀
(b) while/ whereas⠀
⠀
e.g.⠀
Joe is diligent, while her sister is lazy.⠀
Joe is diligent, whereas her sister is lazy.⠀
.⠀
e.g.⠀
While I still love you, I can't be with you.⠀
⠀
/⠀
(c) even though/ even if主要差異⠀
Even though you don't love me, I still love you.⠀
⠀
Even if you don't love me, I still love you.⠀
⠀
(B) Because (conj.)
(C) Once (conj.)
(D) Until (conj.)
⠀

River snail can clear heat and relieve water retention
When we first learned snails (escargot) are served in French cuisine, we must have been a bit shocked. Since we were young, the snails we knew are the ones crawling on the ground on rainy days. So why are they called river snails?
We should be quite familiar with river snail stir-fried with chili. Actually, the typical snail is a type of shelled gastropod, whereas the escargot is specifically cultivated for French cuisine. Please note that it is unsafe to consume snails from the wild. From the perspective of Chinese Medicine, river snail is cold in nature, can clear heat, brighten one’s vision, quench one’s thirst and has diuretic properties.
In Chinese cooking, river snails are often cooked with ingredients that are warm in nature, such as ginger, onion, garlic and chili, to balance out its coldness. As for French cuisine, chefs would normally prepare escargot with simple vanilla butter. Once baked at a high temperature, the fragrance of the butter would seep into the flesh. Try to close your eyes and enjoy the taste, imagine yourself travelling in France!
River snail – cold in nature, can clear heart, brighten one’s vision, quench one’s thirst and has diuretic properties, is suitable for individuals with symptoms such as water retention, urination, bleeding hemorrhoids, and swelling and pain of the eyes. Since it is cold in nature, it is not suitable for individuals with a weak spleen and loose stools, a cold stomach and those experiencing frequent stomachache; also not suitable for those who with a cold flu, going through period as well as cold-related menstrual pain.

1⃣ a dish (though it's a bit old-fashioned)
2⃣ Revenge is a dish best served cold
3⃣ dish it out; sb. can dish it out, but not take it
4⃣ dish the dirt (on); dish on
--
When we say “wash the dishes,” we mean all the tableware, and even the silverware. But in English, whereas plates are usually used to eat from, dishes, which are flatter than bowls, and not as flat as plates (and sometimes have lids), are used to serve or cook food. And a dish can also refer to the food that is served in the dish. Now let’s learn some other dish-related idioms!
You know that a serving of food can be called a dish, but what if you 1⃣call a person a dish? It means they’re sexy and attractive. This expression, which sounds a little old-fashioned these days, likely has it’s origins in comparing a person to a delicious dish of food. Ex: Wow, she’s gorgeous—what a dish!
Wow, she’s gorgeous—what a dish!(哇,那個妹有夠正的──是天菜。)
Besides food, what else can be served on dishes? Revenge! Have you ever heard the proverb, 2⃣“Revenge is a dish best served cold”? It means that revenge is most satisfying when one takes the time to plan it carefully and carry it out when your enemy least suspects it, rather than immediately after one is wronged. This expression has existed for hundreds of years, but it was made popular when it appeared in the 1982 movie, Star Trek II, the Wrath of Khan. Ex: A: How can you let him get away with treating you like that? B: I won’t, but revenge is a dish best served cold.
(Revenge is a dish best served cold)嗎? A: How can you let him get away with treating you like that? B: I won’t, but revenge is a dish best served cold.
As a verb, dish means “to serve,” and is the basis of a number of expressions. To 3⃣“dish it out” means to criticize or insult, and is often used in the idiom, “sb. can dish it out, but not take it,” which is used to describe people who are quick to criticize others, but can’t take criticism themselves. Ex: A: I didn’t realize that Karen was so thin-skinned. B: Yeah. She can dish it out, but she can’t take it.
dish it out指「批評,侮辱」,常出現在sb. can dish it out, but not take it. A: I didn’t realize that Karen was so thin-skinned. B: Yeah. She can dish it out, but she can’t take it.
Another idiom with dish as a verb is 4⃣“dish the dirt (on),” which means to gossip about someone or something. Ex: Let’s sit down, have a drink and dish the dirt. The expression “dish on” also has the same meaning. Ex: Why are you always dishing on Patricia?
Let’s sit down, have a drink and dish the dirt.(咱們坐下來喝杯茶聊八卦吧。) Why are you always dishing on Patricia?(為什麼你總是在八卦派翠西亞?)

1. in temperate climate……, ______ in tropical regions…
3. 「被感染」原本是 when they are infected, 不過主詞前面出現過了,在when的後面再次出現時可以省略,所以變成 when infected
因為人們是「被感染」被動態=be動詞+p.p= are infected
4. 這題有點小心機,要認識vaccination(施打疫苗)這個字才能選出prevent(預防),疫苗是用來「預防」疾病的
