Ladies and gentlemen, as promised, here comes the Santa Margarita Ranch Burger paired with Ancient Peaks Renegade Santa Margarita Ranch Paso Robles. ​ ​ While @brucekuo.brooklyn was making the burger, I opened the 2018 Renegade and let it breath. ​ ​ Renegade is a Syrah dominated blend with Petit Verdot and Malbec. It takes the rich, bold flavors and structure of Rhone Syrah variety and combines the finesse of Bordeaux varieties. ​ ​ The grapes are all from Ancient Peaks’ estate Margarita Vineyards, a unitary vineyard located in the Santa Margarita Ranch AVA in the southernmost tip of Paso Robles region. This AVA is unique and distinctive in terms of soil, climate, topography, and geology. ​ ​ ​ ​ The wine displays opulent aromas of ripe black fruits, prune, figs, cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise, with hints of ground black pepper and violet. Full bodied with rich and unctuous flavors, bright acidity and ripe tannins, the Renegade is certainly a wonderful choice to go with the juicy, delicious Santa Margarita Ranch Burger. ​ ​ ​ Oh… and I love Nana Betty’s secret sauce. Small Town Charm Meets World Class Wine: Say Hello to Paso Robles Wines​ ​ Located on California’s Central Coast, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, Paso Robles AVA encompasses more than 40,000 acres under vine and is home to 200 plus wineries. ​ ​ ​ Established in 1983, Paso Robles AVA is comprised of 11 sub-regions with diverse topography (from river bottom to rolling hills, and flat lands to mountains), distinct climate (greatest diurnal temperature swing in CA and long growing season), and with more than 30 parent soil series founded in the region. Recent research discovered that Paso Robles has the most calcareous and siliceous soil in CA. Fascinating, right? ​ ​ ​ Known for their Zinfandel and Rhone blends, the most widely planted varieties in Paso Robles are Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by Merlot and Syrah, along with Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and other grape varieties.
