20210423 #隙隙乾貨 最近有些可愛的朋朋來私訊我怎麼精讀，這裡就放我的一篇精讀思路，大家可以跟著做筆記(⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎) 文章來源：經濟學人官網（法律掃盲：純描述事實的新聞內容轉述或重製是不造成侵權的！） 這篇文章主要是在描述印度在歡度新年的同時，新冠肺炎的確診及死亡人數也在飆升。我擷取一段來進行精讀分析，可以從中學到一些描述數字趨勢的用法，對於不論是指考作文還是雅思小作文都非常有用。 先花一分鐘讀一下這一段： And across the country (India), the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 for the first time surpassed 200,000 in a single day. It has continued to surge since, reaching 315,000 just one week later—the highest daily figure in any country at any point during the pandemic. （而在全國（印度）各地，對新冠肺炎檢測結果為陽性的人數第一次在一天內超過200,000人。自此之後數字持續飆升，並在一週後達到315,000人，是疫情期間全球單日最高紀錄） 首先看一下第一句： And across the country (India), the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 for the first time surpassed 200,000 in a single day. 分析結構，有些朋朋們遇到長句的時候會手忙腳亂，其實先找出主謂賓就可以了。 The number of people surpassed 200,000. 其他都是補述。 testing positive for COVID-19 是用來補述前面的people，這邊運用了形容詞子句的變形。 還原之後是：people who tested positive... 因為這邊test是主動態，因此省略關代之後要改成主動態Ving。要非常注意關代後的動詞是被動還是主動。 這是指考學測英文的常見考點，比如108年的學測考題有一題是這樣的： A Spanish designer travelling to the Philippines observed a traditional Filipino shirt ____ together with the fibers of pineapple leaves. (A)wove(B)weaving(C)woven (D)to weave weave是編織的意思，而這句已經有主語A Spanish designer 、謂語observed和賓語a traditional Filipino shirt。在沒有適當連接詞的狀況下，我們可以知道這邊的weave必定是補述。 而這邊其實是要表示一種傳統的用鳳梨葉纖維編織的衣服：A traditional Filipino shirt “which was woven”together with the fibers of pineapple leaves。 衣服是「被」編織的，所以在省略關代之後要選被動態woven，故選(C)。 某人檢驗某種疾病的結果為陽性/陰性反應的英文是：sb test positive/ negative for sth.。 這裡有一個中英文邏輯不太相同的地方，中文裡面我們是「被檢驗」但是英文裡的檢驗是主動的，要注意不要寫錯鴨。 另外，如果我們要說已經確診某種疾病還有這些表達：sb contract /catch /be infected with sth. 例如：She was infected with pneumonia bacteria.（她感染了肺炎細菌） 第一句的動詞surpass對大家來說應該是新詞（對隙隙也是），但是看到的時候可以猜出它的意思。 Sur-字首是super-字首的變形，表「超過、上方」，所以surpass可以推斷為超越、超過。 關於sur-字首有一個比較廣為人知的例子，就是姓氏surname。 surpass可以表示數字超過某個值，也可以用在超乎⋯⋯，比如超乎預期：surpass expectation。 The result surpassed our expectation.（結果超乎我們的預期） 最後再重新讀一次： And across the country (India), the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 for the first time surpassed 200,000 in a single day. - 好啦！鑑於Instagram 的字數限制，第二句就不在這邊跟大家分析了，有興趣看完的朋朋們在下面留言「精讀」就可以得到剩下的精讀分析啦(*≧ω≦)［已截止］ 祝大家英文都可以大進步！！！
