แต่รู้ไหมว่า มีบริษัทของเล่นรายหนึ่งในออสเตรเลีย ที่ครั้งหนึ่งบริษัทมีปัญหาจนเกือบล้มละลาย แต่สุดท้ายก็สามารถพลิกกลับมามียอดขายโตกว่า 7,000%

ที่น่าสนใจคือ ชายที่เข้ามาปลุกปั้นอาณาจักรของเล่นนี้ให้ยิ่งใหญ่ คือชายที่ลี้ภัยมาจากเยอรมนี ข้ามน้ำข้ามทะเลกับครอบครัว มาก่อร่างสร้างตัว ณ แดนจิงโจ้แห่งนี้

ชายที่เราพูดถึง เขามีชื่อว่า Manny Stul เกิดเมื่อปี 1949 ที่ค่ายผู้อพยพพลัดถิ่น ใกล้กับเมืองมิวนิก ในประเทศเยอรมนี

แต่ด้วยความที่พ่อและแม่ของเขาเป็นชาวโปแลนด์เชื้อสายยิว ที่เกิดในช่วงสงครามโลก ซึ่งไม่ค่อยเป็นที่ยอมรับในเยอรมนี จึงทำให้ต่อมาครอบครัวของเขาต้องลี้ภัยออกนอกประเทศ และข้ามน้ำข้ามทะเลมายังออสเตรเลีย

ครอบครัวของเขา มาตั้งรกรากอยู่ที่ Perth เมืองทางตะวันตกของออสเตรเลีย และทั้งพ่อและแม่ของเขา ต้องทำงานอย่างหนัก เพื่อส่งให้ Manny ได้เรียนหนังสือ

ส่วนตัวของ Manny เอง เขาเป็นเด็กที่เรียนเก่งมาก จนได้ทุนการศึกษา แต่ตัวเขากลับไม่อยากจะสนใจในเรื่องการเรียนอีกแล้ว เพราะอยากทำงานหาเงินได้เร็ว ๆ จากที่เห็นพ่อแม่ลำบากมาตลอด

สุดท้าย Manny จึงตัดสินใจลาออกจากโรงเรียนตอนเขาอายุได้ 15 ปี เพื่อมาทำงานหาเลี้ยงตัวเองและครอบครัว

หลังจากทำงานเก็บเงินได้ก้อนหนึ่ง เขาก็ได้ให้รางวัลตัวเองด้วยการออกเดินทางไปเที่ยวยุโรป ซึ่งการไปเที่ยวครั้งนี้เอง ได้เป็นจุดเริ่มต้นในการทำธุรกิจของเขา

เพราะในช่วงที่เขาไปเที่ยว เขาก็ได้พบกับ ชุดช้อนส้อม ที่ออกแบบสไตล์สแกนดิเนเวีย และเกิดเป็นไอเดียธุรกิจ ว่าอยากจะลองนำเข้าสินค้าจากแถบสแกนดิเนเวียมาขายในออสเตรเลีย

หลังจากกลับมาจากการเดินทางครั้งนั้น เขาก็อยากรีบมาทำธุรกิจตามที่คิดไว้ในทันที แต่ก็ติดปัญหาตรงที่ เขายังมีเงินทุนไม่มากพอ จึงต้องไปทำงานในไซต์ก่อสร้างเพื่อเก็บเงินเพิ่ม

ระหว่างทำงานในไซต์ก่อสร้าง เขาก็เกือบจะออกนอกลู่นอกทาง เพราะงานที่ทำนั้นหนักมาก ทำให้เขาเหนื่อยและเครียดมากจนติดเหล้าอย่างหนัก แต่เมื่อเขาดึงสติตัวเองกลับมาได้ เขาถอนตัวได้ทัน และกลับมาตั้งใจทำงานเก็บเงินอีกครั้ง

หลังจากมีเงินทุนเพียงพอ เขาก็ได้เริ่มต้นทำธุรกิจนำเข้าสินค้าในปี 1974 ที่มีชื่อว่า Skansen

นี่ถือได้ว่าการทำธุรกิจในครั้งนี้เริ่มต้นจากศูนย์อย่างแท้จริง เพราะเขาไม่รู้เลยว่าการทำธุรกิจต้องทำอย่างไรบ้าง

เขาเริ่มเรียนรู้ด้วยตัวเองจากจุดเริ่มต้น ตั้งแต่เดินทางไปติดต่อคู่ค้าเพื่อสร้างความสัมพันธ์ เรียนรู้การตั้งราคาขายสินค้า หรือแม้กระทั่งทำการขนส่งสินค้าด้วยตนเอง

ซึ่งตัวของ Manny เองมองว่า สิ่งที่เขาเรียนรู้จากการเริ่มทำธุรกิจครั้งแรก คือความไว้วางใจ ความเชื่อใจกันระหว่างพาร์ตเนอร์ทางธุรกิจ ถือเป็นสิ่งที่สำคัญมาก และนี่ก็ได้กลายมาเป็นหลักยึดสำคัญในการทำธุรกิจของเขาเรื่อยมา

หลังจากทำธุรกิจมาได้เกือบ 20 ปี ในช่วงปี 1994 ร้าน Skansen ก็ได้เติบโตมากขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ จนกลายมาเป็น ธุรกิจร้านขายของขวัญและสินค้านำเข้า ชื่อดังในออสเตรเลีย

อย่างไรก็ตามในช่วงนั้น พ่อของเขาก็ได้เสียชีวิตลง ในขณะที่แม่ของเขาก็เริ่มมีอาการของโรคอัลไซเมอร์

Manny จึงตัดสินใจขายธุรกิจ Skansen ไปด้วยมูลค่าราว ๆ 567 ล้านบาท ให้กับ George Snow มหาเศรษฐีชาวออสเตรเลีย โดยเขาคิดว่า เขาจะวางมือจากการทำงานทุกอย่าง และหันไปทำฟาร์มในชนบทแทน

หลังไปใช้ชีวิตในชนบทได้ราว 5-6 ปี ต่อมาในช่วงปี 2000 Manny ก็เริ่มกลับมามองหาการลงทุนในบริษัทที่น่าสนใจ เพื่อต่อยอดเงินเก็บที่เขามีอยู่

ที่ปรึกษาทางการเงินของเขาจึงแนะนำให้เขาเข้าไปลงทุนในบริษัทที่ชื่อว่า “Moose Toys” ซึ่งเป็นบริษัทขายของเล่นเล็ก ๆ ที่มีพนักงานในตอนนั้นเพียง 10 คนเท่านั้น

Manny เองก็ลองศึกษาตัวธุรกิจดู และก็มองเห็นว่าบริษัทแห่งนี้มีแนวโน้มที่จะเติบโตได้ในอนาคต จึงตัดสินใจทุ่มเงินเข้าไปซื้อกิจการ และหลังจากนั้นเขาก็ตัดสินใจหวนคืนกลับมาสู่วงการนักบริหารกิจการอีกครั้ง..

ช่วงแรกที่เขาเข้ามา Moose Toys ทำรายได้ได้ปีละประมาณ 134 ล้านบาท
เขาเริ่มเข้ามาปรับเปลี่ยนวิธีการทำงานทั้งหมด ปรับโครงสร้างบริษัทใหม่ จ้างทีมพัฒนาสินค้าใหม่เข้ามา และหลังจากนั้น Moose Toys ก็ได้ออกสินค้าใหม่

จุดเปลี่ยนสำคัญของ Moose Toys คือการเปิดตัว Mighty Beanz ของรูปทรงคล้ายลูกปัด หรือเมล็ดถั่ว
ซึ่งกลายเป็นที่นิยมไปทั่วออสเตรเลีย และสามารถทำให้รายได้ของบริษัทเพิ่มจากหลักร้อยล้านบาท เป็นราว ๆ 1,400 ล้านบาท ในเวลา 4 ปี

หลังจากนั้นบริษัทก็ได้เริ่มขยายฐานการผลิตไปยังประเทศจีน และเริ่มขยับขยายไปทำตลาดในจีนและต่างประเทศมากขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ

อย่างไรก็ตาม การออกสินค้าใหม่ครั้งนั้น ก็ทำให้บริษัทต้องเผชิญกับปัญหาครั้งใหญ่ ที่ทำให้บริษัทเกือบล้มละลาย

เนื่องจากมีการรายงานว่า พบเด็กต้องเข้าโรงพยาบาล จากการพยายามอมและกลืน Mighty Beanz ซึ่งสารเคมีใน Mighty Beanz เมื่อสัมผัสกับน้ำลาย จะเปลี่ยนเป็นสารอันตรายต่อร่างกาย

เรื่องนี้ทำให้ Moose Toys ต้องเรียกคืนสินค้าทั้งหมดกว่า 40 ล้านชิ้น
รัฐบาลจีนสั่งห้ามนำเข้าหรือขายสินค้าของ Moose Toys ทุกชนิด
และ Moose Toys ถูกฟ้องร้องหลายคดี สร้างความเสียหายให้กับบริษัทเป็นอย่างมาก

เหตุการณ์ในครั้งนั้นกลายเป็นหายนะครั้งใหญ่ของบริษัท ชื่อเสียงที่สร้างมา กำลังจะถูกทำลายลงไปในทันตา

หลายคนคิดว่า Moose Toys ต้องล้มละลายแน่ ๆ แต่ Manny ไม่คิดแบบนั้น โดยเขาได้หันไปปรึกษากับทนายความที่มีชื่อว่า Leon Zwier

ซึ่งนอกจากทนาย Leon Zwier จะให้คำแนะนำและช่วยดูแลเรื่องข้อกฎหมายแล้ว
เขายังแนะนำให้ Manny เดินทางไปงานรวมของเล่นที่ฮ่องกง เพื่อไปเชื่อมสัมพันธ์ สร้างคอนเน็กชันทางธุรกิจ กับกลุ่มธุรกิจร้านจัดจำหน่ายรายใหญ่ เพื่อหาตลาดใหม่ให้กับ Moose Toys

Manny เริ่มเดินหน้าหาคู่ค้าและคอนเน็กชันให้กับบริษัท Moose Toys โดยเริ่มต้นจากการอธิบายให้คู่เจรจาทุกคนเข้าใจ ว่าธุรกิจของเขากำลังเจอปัญหาอะไรอยู่ อย่างตรงไปตรงมา

จากนั้นเขาก็ยื่นข้อเสนอที่ดึงดูดใจคู่เจรจา เช่น จะมอบส่วนลดพิเศษให้เป็นระยะเวลาหนึ่ง หากตกลงเป็นคู่ค้ากับ Moose Toys

ซึ่งกลยุทธ์ในครั้งนั้นก็ประสบความสำเร็จ มีผู้จัดจำหน่ายมากกว่า 30 ราย จากหลายประเทศ ตกลงเป็นคู่ค้ากับ Moose Toys

หลังจากการเจรจาทางธุรกิจสำเร็จไปได้ด้วยดี Manny ก็เดินทางกลับมาออสเตรเลีย เพื่อมาชี้แจงต่อหน่วยงานด้านสุขภาพ ว่าของเล่นจาก Moose Toys นั้นมีความปลอดภัย

Manny ถึงกับเอาตัวเองเป็นการรับประกัน โดยเขาได้บอกว่า หากยังตรวจพบสารอันตรายในของเล่นจาก Moose Toys ให้ฟ้องเอาผิดเขาในคดีอาญาได้เลย

หลังจากนั้นมา ความเชื่อมั่นของบริษัทก็ค่อย ๆ ฟื้นกลับมา บริษัทมีตลาดใหม่ ๆ ในหลายประเทศเพิ่มขึ้นมา และยอดขายของบริษัทก็เริ่มกลับมาเติบโตอย่างก้าวกระโดดได้อีกครั้ง

สรุปภาพรวมแล้ว ภายใต้การบริหารของ Manny Stul ในช่วงเวลา 15 ปี ตั้งแต่ปี 2000-2015 ยอดขายของ Moose Toys เติบโตจาก 134 ล้านบาท เป็น 9,600 ล้านบาท หรือเติบโตขึ้นกว่า 7,000%
ซึ่งนั่นทำให้เขา ได้รับรางวัล Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Australia ในปี 2016 อีกด้วย

ในปัจจุบัน Manny Stul ถูกประเมินโดย Forbes
ว่ามีมูลค่าทรัพย์สินอยู่ประมาณ 33,000 ล้านบาท

Dikembe Mutombo looked as if he'd been playing with the Philadelphia 76ers for years instead of hours.

Mutombo had 17 points, 13 rebounds and five blocked shots in his debut with Philadelphia as the 76ers beat the Detroit Pistons 99-78 Friday night.
"He changed the whole game with his defense and rebounding," said Philadelphia's Allen Iverson, who had 43 points and 10 rebounds.
Mutombo was traded along with Roshown McLeod from Atlanta to Philadelphia on Thursday for Theo Ratliff, Nazr Mohammed and Pepe Sanchez in the most-significant deal of the NBA season.
After the game, Mutombo looked relieved to be sitting in a folding chair with ice packs surrounding both knees.
He flew from Atlanta to Philadelphia late Thursday night, had a physical at 7 a.m., then arrived in Detroit at about 5 p.m. Friday.
"I need some sleep," Mutombo said. "But really, I'm so excited to be with this group of guys. They're all about winning and we have a great coach."
Philadelphia coach Larry Brown was glad that Mutombo was able to provide a lot of the same things as Ratliff.
"He rebounded and defended like he has his whole career," Brown said. "I thought he was terrific ... I think it's pretty remarkable what he was able to do under those circumstances."
Philadelphia has the best record in the NBA at 42-14. The Sixers extended their winning streak to six games.
Detroit's Jerry Stackhouse scored 22 points. Chucky Atkins had 12 points and Dana Barros added 10. The Pistons made just 37.1 percent of their shots.
Mutombo's status for the game was much more in doubt than the outcome.
The Sixers jumped out to a 16-4 lead and cruised to the win. Philadelphia led by nine points after one quarter, 12 at halftime and 17 after three quarters.
Philadelphia did not know whether Mutombo would be cleared to play until an hour before the game.
Minutes after Philadelphia Brown was informed that Mutombo was able to play, Mutombo walked into Philadelphia's locker room.
When Brown told Mutombo that he could play, the nine-year veteran asked "What do you want me to do?"
Brown left the decision whether or not to play up to Mutombo. He nodded his head to indicate that he wanted to play, and then turned to look for a uniform and basketball shoes to replace his brown suit and dress shoes.
On defense, Mutombo, the three-time defensive player of the year, hung around the lane to block and alter shots.
He ignited Philadelphia's fastbreak with 10 defensive rebounds and crisp outlet passes. There were times that Iverson was so far down the court that Mutombo didn't make it to halfcourt.
On offense, he set space-creating screens with his 7-foot-2, 265-pound frame. When Mutombo got the ball, his sky hooks and deliberate low-post moves gave the Sixers an option on the interior.
Mutombo started and played 36 minutes. He made 7-of-12 shots and 3-of-4 free throws.
"There is not much difference between the Sixers with Theo Ratliff and with Mutombo," said Detroit's Ben Wallace, who had 17 rebounds. "They both clog the middle and block a lot of shots. Theo is a little more athletic and Mutombo is a little bigger."
The game also marked the debut of Detroit's Corliss Williamson, who scored six points and grabbed four rebounds.
Williamson was traded by Toronto along with Kornell David, Tyrone Corbin and a conditional first-round pick to Detroit for Jerome Williams and Eric Montross. Detroit released Corbin and put David on the injured list.
"It was unfair to play him, but once Ben (Wallace) got those two quick fouls, I didn't have much choice," Detroit's George Irvine said. "It's been a whirlwind for him, but he'll be fine. He did a nice job out there."

The Charlotte Hornets put the Philadelphia 76ers away with a timely switch to a zone defense.

After blowing a 19-point lead, Charlotte went to a zone defense that stopped a Philadelphia spurt and helped lift the Hornets to a 94-85 victory Wednesday night.

"It got them out of their rhythm when they were making their charge," Hornets coach Paul Silas said.

Lee Nailon had a career-high 27 points, Baron Davis added 19 points, P.J. Brown had 15 points and 13 rebounds, Elden Campbell had 12 points and 10 rebounds and David Wesley also had 12 points for the Hornets, who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Allen Iverson led Philadelphia with 38 points on 13-of-30 shooting. Aaron McKie had 17 points and Derrick Coleman and Dikembe Mutombo each grabbed 12 rebounds for the 76ers, who had a two-game winning streak snapped and have lost eight of their last 10.

"We weren't getting stops so they could play zone," Iverson said. "Guys are not attacking, not taking the ball to the basket."

A jumper by Wesley as the shot clock buzzer sounded gave the Hornets a 90-84 lead with 1:09 left in the game. On the ensuing possession by Philadelphia, Campbell blocked a runner floater by Iverson, leading to layup by Nailon to put the game away.

After a fast-break dunk by Nailon gave Charlotte a 79-68 lead early in the fourth quarter, the 76ers scored 10 straight, including eight by Iverson to close to 79-78 with 7:21 left. The Hornets then scored the next five, including two on free throws after Mutombo and Iverson were whistled for technicals during the same play, to go ahead 84-78 with 6:15 remaining.

The Hornets broke open a 64-64 tie in the third quarter by scoring 13 of the last 17 points of the quarter, with Nailon making three baskets in the final minute as Charlotte took a 77-68 lead. Charlotte's zone defense allowed the Sixers to making just three baskets in the final seven minutes of the quarter.

"(The zone) really worked well," Wesley said. "We got them to stand around and take jump shots and when they did try to drive the lane we closed up the middle."

The first half consisted of two very different quarters. Charlotte outscored the Sixers 38-21 in the first quarter, thanks to 59 percent shooting (17-of-29) and a 16-6 rebounding advantage.

Philadelphia came back strong in the second quarter, rebounding from a 19-point deficit and scoring 26 of the last 35 points of the half to pull to 55-53 at halftime. Iverson had 13 points and was 4-of-7 from the field in the quarter.
