因為光看歌詞我只能有片段片面的理解
所以決定不逐字逐句翻
個人覺得整張專輯最難翻譯的是這首"Teddy Picker"
和下一首"D is for Dangerous"還有後半段的"If You were There, Beware"
但是我還是想要每首歌都寫點什麼東西
希望趕快熬過第 2, 3 首接下來就比較好寫了orz
關於歌名以及歌曲大意詮釋
原本以為 "teddy picker" 就像 "mardy bum" 一樣
只要是英國人都知道是怎麼一回事的俚俗語
但結果看討論區國外的歌迷也只能臆測旁敲側擊
大致上的說法有 2 種
1) "teddy picker" 是類似「抓娃娃機」的娛樂
隨機從一大堆相似的東西挑選自己中意的來夾
2) "teddy picker" 是需要專注力類似「心臟病」的押牌選擇遊戲
你要留意抓到最好的才能成為最後的贏家
不過從以上的歌名理解延伸出來的寓意詮釋卻殊途同歸
不少歌迷把這首歌連結到小猴子對音樂/媒體生態的嘲諷

每年都有的 "media hype" 或者上鏡頭出名的人，不也很像被抓的娃娃
雀屏中選的樂團/歌手不見得是所謂最優秀的，紅的人也並非真的那麼有料
可能只是上頭覺得「好做」「和潮流流行符合」的便大肆吹捧曝光

(上面引號裡的話感覺很諷刺，明明那些 "they" 媒體的操弄者
就是最厲害的 "poser" 和 "professional pretender" 專業煞有其事裝模作樣的高手!)

而相反來說，生態越是如此，懷抱追星/成名夢的人可能也越多
大家想緊緊抓住屬於自己出名的機會
儘管到頭來可能發現，事情不僅不如自己想像的那麼單純美好，還成為被利用壓榨的對象

賭氣般的說要越玩越快，越玩越大
彷彿在嘲諷汰換速度越來越快的演藝/媒體圈，胃口被越養越大的追星族和觀眾
最後兩句真的大大出了口悶氣的感覺
如果成為「men of the people」人中之龍，眾所矚目的焦點
意味著要被你們這些自以為是的操弄者給玩弄於股掌之間
那我們寧願不要!!!!!!!!!!!!
卡拉OK心得
這首歌比 "Brianstorm" 難唱多了，簡直在考驗英語咬字連字繞口令的速度orz
不過同樣的，我很喜歡反映在實際唱腔和曲調風格的那種
詭異、不協調(很容易走音)和趕拍的感覺
呼應歌詞的那種被(半)強迫洗腦、扭曲的價值觀
會唱到很激動的地方像是
They've sped up to the point where they provoke you to tell the fucking
punch-line before you have told the joke,
這句感覺好賤，自己被操弄，口是心非，弄巧成拙的無力
“I'm sorry, sunshine, it doesn't exist, It wasn't in the top 100 list“
被利用完了才把你的夢想敲碎...
She saw it and she grabbed it and it wasn't what it seemed
很喜歡這句咬字的節奏感!雖然有那麼多"it"卻更加點出不知所以的莫名和盲目
Do you reckon that they make them take an oath that says that we are defenders
of any poser or professional pretender around
特愛 "defenders" 的停頓還有 "professional" 停頓 "pretender around"
因為感覺很故作姿態還用一些冠冕堂皇的字:P
When did your list replace the twist and turn like a fist, replaced a kiss,
Don’t concern us with your bollocks,
I don’t want your prayer, save it for the morning after
我真的覺得 Al 的「頭韻」和「尾韻」用得很棒，每每造成特出的節奏感
"list" "twist" "fist" "kiss"
然後他用了個我最愛的英式用語之一 "bollocks"(「狗屁」「胡扯」「廢話」!)
Presuming that all things are equal
Who'd want to be men of the people when there's people like you
超愛模仿 Al 這兩句的語氣唱腔
那種不屑和回擊的 "punchline" 點睛之筆，有種命中要害的力道
