你想當 intelligent的人，還是 smart的人？
Intelligent 跟 smart 的差別是什麼？
我很喜歡這個英國人的YT頻道 "The Art of Improvement"，他的影片我幾乎全部看過了，很多我都還看好多遍。
幾週前看到其中一個舊影片，題目是 "Steve Jobs’s Definition of “Smart” Will Make You Rethink Your Actions"，驚訝之餘，沈澱幾週後，越來越認同Steve Jobs的想法。
我自己在看影片時會做筆記，不如就在這裏跟大家分享。
一般人想到 intelligence時，都會想到高IQ+高EQ，不然就是很 cliché 的 think out of the box。但 Steve Jobs對 intelligence 的看法是 the ability to zoom out, like you're in a city and you could look at the whole thing from the 80th floor down at the city，意思就是當一般人都還摸不著頭緒，卡在一個問題當中時， you get a better view of the big picture。
這真的是一個好衝擊的想法喔。一般人以為飽讀詩書，最好是讀到博士，應該就算是聰明，但 Steve Jobs 心裏的聰明人，是可以很輕易連結點跟點的人（剛好呼應他在 Stanford的演講中說的 connecting the dots），是可以清楚看到世界的人。
那要怎樣才能擁有這樣的能力呢？
很簡單，那就是 have unique life experiences。想要有創意，就要有別人沒有的人生經驗。影片中舉了很多例子，例如 go to Paris and be a poet (我有想過), go to a third-world country (我打很多勾), fall in love with two people at once (我沒有過)，或是學 Walt Disney 一樣吃LSD (註：LSD是一種吃了會看到幻覺的迷幻藥)。根據一項研究顯示（不知道是不是傳說中的英國研究，啊他英國人啊），openness to experience is the best predictor for job performance in situations requiring creativity. 而，這不就是任何創投家的謀生之道 ，every entrepreneur's bread and butter？
他也提到 extroversion (外向不害羞) 在社交互動上扮演 key role。
呼應到 Jobs 說的，開放的心胸跟外向的性格，會讓人去追尋異於常人的經驗並且從中獲得極寶貴的觀點。
另外，要當一個成功的創投家，你還必須是個 avid reader，要熱愛閱讀，但閱讀時，並非背誦書中知識，而是從書中吸取別人的經驗並改變自己的 perspective。內向者更是要多閱讀，因為閱讀可以形塑他們的世界觀。大量閱讀的人可以在別人還沒發現前，就看到世界走勢或機會。
Experiences are everything.
說穿了，人生中許多的 key turning points，其實不是什麼天才的想法或突然領悟了什麼，而是...
“I'd meet someone. I'd have my core assumptions challenged. We'd do something together that I'd never think of doing on my own. In the end, I'd be left with experiences and lessons that I never would've been able to get just by my own intellectual effort.”
總之，結尾是，你不必真的去旅遊，或吃 LSD 去取得有趣的人生經驗。你可以閱讀、上線上課、去認識有趣的人，但 the rule of thumb 經驗法則就是，在今日想成為一個成功的創投家，你就必須要有同業中很少有人有的經驗，去成為真正的一個有遠見卓識的 visionary。
梅姨結語，所以快開始閱讀、上課、交有趣的朋友，更重要的是，打開心胸去接受新的經驗吧！你的人生是你自己的，不是你爸媽的，不是你老師的，不是社會期許的。若每個人都走一樣的道路，那說真的，世界上就只要有幾個代表幫我們活著就好了，我們為何要被生下來？人，不就是生下來感受各種不同的人生體驗嗎？

22 歲非裔美籍詩人 Amanda Gorman 上台讀詩
這首詩的選字雖然平易近人
但巧妙運用了每個字詞的雙關和歧義
用寫作的角度來說，可謂語用力驚人
報導給出了這個主標題：
The Hill We Climb: the Amanda Gorman poem that stole the inauguration show
The Hill We Climb 是詩的標題
steal the show 指「搶盡風采」
inauguration 就是「就職典禮」
副標題這麼說：
The 22-year-old poet wowed the crowd with her reading during Joe Biden’s swearing-in
wow the crowd 指「讓群眾驚豔」，wow 當動詞有「讓人說 wow 」的意思
swearing-in 指「宣誓就職」
接著讓我們一起來讀詩的第一節：
When day comes, we ask ourselves where can we find light in this never-ending shade?
（當白晝降臨，我們問著自己：在無盡的陰影中如何找到光亮？）
👉 light（光亮）和 shade（陰影）對比
👉 never-ending 永不結束的
The loss we carry, a sea we must wade.
（我們承受著失去，還須度過一片汪洋。）
👉 lose 是動詞，loss 是名詞
👉 wade 指「涉水而過」
We’ve braved the belly of the beast.
（我們抵擋著艱險危殆。）
👉 brave 當動詞用，有「勇敢面對、敢於承受」的意思
👉 belly of the beast 意指「非常危險的境地」
We’ve learned that quiet isn’t always peace,
（我們知曉沉默不代表和睦）
👉 learn 除了「學習」，還有「知道」的意思
and the norms and notions of what “just” is isn’t always justice.
（「正直」的思維和規範，不一定等同正義）
👉 norms and notions 押頭韻 (alliteration)，吸引讀者注意力
👉 just 可以當 justice 的形容詞，例如：a just/ an unjust man（一個正直/不正直的人）
And yet, the dawn is ours before we knew it.
（然而在我們知曉之前，黎明就屬於我們）
Somehow we do it.
（我們終究挺了過來）
👉 somehow 原意為「不知怎地」，常用來形容「非常艱難、不知怎麼辦到」
Somehow we’ve weathered and witnessed a nation that isn’t broken,
but simply unfinished.
（我們歷盡滄桑，親眼看見一個國家並非殘破，只是尚未完整）
👉 weather 當動詞時指「遭受風雨吹打」、witness 指「目擊」
👉 能想到 weathered and witnessed 兩個 w 的組合，功力非常高強
光是一個詩節
就有太多靈活但又不會太難的單字用法
值得我們攝取學習
所以建議大家養成沒事就翻翻英文報章的習慣

Flattening The Curve: New life
「杜可風」生於1979年的香港中文大學。他由詩人兼文學老師連教授「接生」，為他起了這洪亮又有詩意的名字。
「杜」來自我的英文姓Doyle，也算是向我們當時學習的對象－詩人杜甫致敬。「可風」來自《論語》一句說話：「君子之德風」。
我理解的意思是，時而像暴風強而有力，時而謙遜如赤道之風和暢動人，温婉而具破壞力，風動而物皆動。
風有傲氣，高尚而摯誠。杜和Doyle對連教授起的名字永遠感激，至今這名字一直是我的人生楷模，提醒Doyle要好好面對的良知一面。
Du Ke Feng was born in 1979 in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His “midwife” was the poet and literature Professor Lin. She gave him this resonant poetic name.
The “Du” is suggested by my English surname : Doyle. But also a nod to the influence of the poet on our studies. “Ke Feng” comes from The Analects of Confucius says: “A gentleman is like the wind”.
I interpret that as tempest-strong at times, and effaced like the doldrums. Malleable and moving, caressing and destroying, pushing other things on.
There is pride in the wind. It is noble. It is true. Both Du and Doyle are eternally grateful to her for giving him a name to aspire to, a better version of what he was till then to live up to, and a conscience that Doyle has had to deal with ever since.

常聽說學習東西是要多 Output，但這些 Output 帶表什麼意思呢？不僅是反覆練習，更要用自己「已知」內容來串連「未知」。意即，透過已經有的知識，來解釋，或者反覆思考新的知識體體系。
才能把紊亂的訊息統整再一起，而非我們現在學習的「碎片化」，才不會增加自己每天學習的負擔，雖然當下很有感，明天忘光光，最終才能達成「長期」記憶。
