Literally been speechless trying to put sense to words. I’m shaken to my core to see such a display of domestic terrorism and sickening hypocrisy. To witness how far some people will go in the name of tyranny. The domestic terrorist attacks affected all. But you know what? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How many Black lives have been lost because apparently police couldn’t figure out until Wednesday that they can deescalate without using deadly force (which tbh..most of us been knowing, but looks like some people couldn’t see it until The Capitol was under attack.) It angers me to see today on social media that people are “shocked”. Are you really?? What difference is this when Trump has shown us for the past FOUR years?? That he stands for racism, bigotry, white supremacy…just to start. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For reference, there were 14,000+ arrests at the George Floyd protests. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ America reminded us who it was yesterday. It reminded us that the only lives that matter in this country, are white. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I want to be clear. Not every Trump supporter would support these terrorists, but all these terrorists were Trump supporters. This is 100% on the President and his enablers, peddling conspiracy theories and evidence that has been rejected by the courts or that doesn’t even exist. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ *Deep breath* So I learned this thing in meditation, where if I focus on what I’m thankful about, my clarity and peace will rise. I am thankful for this community of people who speak strength into our country, help to inform people, and right this shit. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thank you to the custodial and building staff who cleaned the Capitol so the votes could be certified. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thank you to the healthcare workers who will inevitably have to deal with the fall out of mask-less rioters. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thank you to the Senate aides who secured the electoral votes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Trump may be gone in a few days but his damage will last. How do we move forward? We have to live UNITED. The new administration has already shown peace and kindness in their messaging. But in the end, our individual actions and choices will make the greatest difference. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In my mind, Jan 20th is when my 2021 begins.

Welcome to my retirement home at Kampung Buangkok-if my wife had her way, that is. This sole surviving kampung in Singapore is so serene and rustic, plus my wife would have her garden full of plants! Well, I don’t mind too, as long as there is WiFi. 😂 Kampung or not, I think we can all agree that we need to plan ahead no matter which life stage we are at. Even though we may have different priorities when we are single, married, middle-aged with teens (me), I think our end goal is mostly similar: aging gracefully and healthily with our loved ones. But part of that goal also entails planning for our finances so that we don’t have to burden our kids when we grow old. I’m self-employed so I cannot stress enough the importance of planning for a better tomorrow. While I gripe about how it is compulsory for me to contribute to my CPF MediSave, I saw the benefits of having the funds during my 2 hospitalisation ‘staycations’. I used my MediSave monies to pay for the balance of my hospitalisation bills after claiming from insurance. No cash required. Every bit of planning (and saving) helps. Why do some of us find it so hard to get started? Because we think that retirement is still so far away. If I were to offer you a bicycle now, would you rather lug it on your back and walk 4km or ride on it for 4km? It’s a no-brainer. Equating it back to planning for retirement, it’s like saying, “I’d rather carry my bicycle and walk because I’m not interested in learning how to ride one.” But we all know what happens the moment we get the hang of cycling. We NEVER forget it and can even teach our kids too! All we need to do is to hop on that bicycle and start peddling towards a better tomorrow. A good start is to build up your retirement nest egg in your CPF Special Account because getting up to 5% interest is nothing to be scoffed at – much like riding your bike for 4km (see what I did there? LOL). For self-employed me, I have been topping up my SA periodically to compound my returns and grow my retirement funds. Because only then, can I have peace of mind and be #AlwaysReady.
