剛好在 WOWSight上面看到他們去拍KAS
根本就是本人的回憶殺

高雄美國學校是我在運動醫學的防護實習站
我在那裡足足待了四個月
除了校隊的防護工作
偶爾還要在健康體育課上當老師或是助教
很幸運也都可以跟校隊出國打國際學校的比賽
既然是國際學校
和學生的溝通都是英語
那段時間堪稱人生英語聽講能力的巔峰

就如影片裡提到
KAS的孩子可能跟local school的體育成績或運動能力比起來雖然有落差
但他們的態度真的很好
總是最有禮貌也最積極的一群
他們的課業很重
但每天下午三點放學後他們就是拚老命的把握時間練習甚至到天黑

除了Sports team
他們的Athletic council 也很厲害
有興趣從事藝術、影像、行銷、管理的學生能夠在這裡發揮長才
用他們的專業幫助學生運動員曝光
這是我在Local school看不到的
真的很特別

有好幾個我過去認識的選手都在國外念頂尖的大學，也都將在今年大學畢業了
體育不是他們人生的全部
而是他們立足社會與世界的催化劑
當他們可以兼顧課業
又可以從體育活動中取得課業裡拿不到的優勢
這樣的孩子很難不成功

同時也很謝謝過去在KAS所認識的老師們
Ken, Flora, Stella, Angela, 還有最美的秘書Vivien
永遠抱著感恩的心
謝謝KAS帶給我的一切

#Memories_in_Kaohsiung_American_School_Internship

I just saw the video on WOWSight to shoot KAS. KAS is a training station for my intership stage when I studying in sports medicine. I stayed there for four months.

In addition to the trainer work of the sports team, I would be a teacher or assistant in their PE class. Fortunately, I can go abroad to play ACAMIS tournaments with their sportsteam.
Since it is an international school, communication with students and teachers always in English, My English listening and speaking ability reached to the top of my life.

KAS athletes may not as competitive as the players from local school sports team, but their attitude is really good. They always be the most polite and positive group.
Their schoolwork is heavy, but they really trying hard to practice for their games every day after school at 3 o’clock.

Except for sports teams, their Athletic Council is also very powerful. Students who interested in art, video-making, photography, marketing, and management can show their talents here Use their majors to help student athletes exposed. This is something I can't see in the local school.

There are several players I have known in the past who have studied in some top universities abroad, and they will graduate from the university this year.
Sports is not everything of their lives.But It’s a catalyst for them to build a foothold in society and the world. They can take care of their schoolwork, they can also get an advantages from sports that you can't get in schoolwork
It's hard for such a child not to succeed.

At the same time, I would like to thank the teachers I met in KAS in the past
Ken, Flora, Stella, Flora, Angela, and Vivien, the most beautiful secretary.

選念生物統計碩士，你也可以改變世界！

台灣國衛院院長梁賡義近來跟媒體談到台灣合成新冠肺炎疫苗的進展，他表示疫情之後，未來台灣生醫的研究發展前途非常樂觀。梁院長是世界知名的生物統計學者，華盛頓大學的公衛博士，且剛被華大公衛學院選為世界50位「引領改變」的校友之一。梁院長目前也擔任台灣中央流行疫情指揮中心研發組召集人。

念生物統計能學到衛生領域的科學研究理論並發展出統計方法。學生可以走研究型（M.S.）或是專業型（M.P.H.）的公衛碩士。完成學位的時間介於兩年到三年之間。生物科技、製藥公司、研究機構、照護單位，學校裡的公衛、醫學、數學、或統計系裡都有生物統計畢業生可以貢獻發揮之處。你準備好去美國念生物統計了嗎？

You can change the world with a graduate degree in biostatistics!

Recently the President of the National Health Research Institutes, Dr. Kung-Yee Liang, met with the press to discuss Taiwan’s progress related to synthesizing a COVID-19 vaccine. He remains very optimistic about the future of biomedical research in Taiwan following COVID-19. Dr. Liang, a world-famous biostatics professional and a University of Washington grad, was recently selected by UW’s School of Public Health as one of 50 “changemakers.” Dr. Liang also leads the research team at Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

Graduate students in biostatistics learn ways to develop statistical methodology and theory for scientific research within health-related fields. Students can earn either a Master of Science in Public Health (MS) or a Master’s in Public Health (MPH). The typical master’s level program takes between two and three years. Most biostatisticians work in the biotech industry, for pharmaceutical companies, in research organizations, in managed care companies, or as teachers in schools of public health, medicine, math, or statistics departments. 【澳洲香港公立醫院大不同】

話說最近跟 一個平凡醫學生的日常。聊天

發現澳洲跟香港在處理急救方面有非常大的分別

在澳洲，有一個概念叫做MET call (Medical Emergency Team）call

當任何醫護人員（醫生/護士/Allied health）認為病人情況危急或擔心病人轉差，又或者病人vital signs持續惡化時，便會啟動MET call

MET團隊會定期由不同的醫生+護士擔任，主要成員包括實習醫生再加幾名不同科較資深的醫生+護士，例如ICU trainee, Anesthetic trainee, physician trainee, surgical trainee和資深護士等等。

所以一但有人召喚MET team時便會成房都是醫生和護士......

話說有次個病人Sudden onset atrial tachycardia, ?SVT/rapid AF，護士擔心病人心跳持續過快，召喚MET team到場協助

連同當時的病房醫生，我們總共有5名醫生+6名護士，護士再拿來一台E-trolley、ECG和vital sign machine，整個病房擠得水洩不通。

處理?SVT/rapid AF一般來說不用太多人，也大概是Carotid massage, modified valsalva, adenosine +/- BB/CCB depending on rhythm，escalate if not responsive。

如果病人穩定後便會step down交由病房醫生繼續處理。

有時候我在想，真的需要那麼多醫生跟護士嗎......

不過，當澳洲人手比例好到可以每個病人花30分鐘問診的時候，其實有條team專門處理急救又真係幾handy

•從語音結構上來看，中文是一種「音節計時語言（syllable-timed language）及「聲調語言」（tone language），每個字由一個音節構成，唸起來各音節輕重相當且時間大致等長，而且每個字有自己的聲調；但英語是一種「重音計時語言」（stress-timed language）及「語調語言」(intonation language)，每個字的音節數不一，由各音節是否有重音來決定其輕重、長短與音階高低，而重音落於何處也會決定其語意之不同。

•會導致聽者需要完全專注他每一個字才能辨識他在說什麼
•不覺得每一個政治人物都需要英文，有專業和可靠的翻譯輔助，就覺得不會是一種困擾
•英文是一種工具，多一種工具就多一種選擇，但這種工具用不好時也有可能會造成一些誤解
