12 Hongkongers were arrested by the China Coast Guard in the name of illegal entry on August 23rd. The arrest had caught global attention. One month had lapsed and still the families of the detainees had no word of their status and well-being. The Hong Kong government watched while the Chinese government lock up Hong Kong people in secrecy.

Ever since their arrest, the families had contacted the Hong Kong Police and the Immigration Department, all efforts in vain. They were unable to contact the detainees directly. The three Chinese lawyers had been barred from contact with the 12 detainees. Not to mention the families who had appointed these lawyers.

The appointed lawyers were told by officers at the detention center, that the detainees had “appointed” two other lawyers. This reveals the intention of the Government to assign Governmental Lawyers so as to deprive the legal right for the detainees and their families to seek their own lawyer.

There have been countless incidents of the CCP’s infringement on demising human rights. In this occurrence, contact with family members lawyers of the 12 detainees have been rejected. The situation is dire and desperate. As a result, we urge for global awareness, support and solidarity, giving strength to the arrested Hong Kong people. We demand the Chinese and Hong Kong governments to be answered for and follow up on the four demands of these Hong Kong people’s families:

1. Refuse the use “lawyers appointed by the government" and urge the Chinese authorities to immediately allow the lawyers entrusted by families to interview the 12 detained Hong Kong people.

2. Request for Chinese authorities to provide appropriate and adequate medication for detainees in need.

3. Request for the Chinese authorities in allowing detainees to call and contact their families.

4. We demand the Hong Kong government to protect the rights of Hong Kong people and immediately bring the 12 detainees back to Hong Kong from China.

不要看我這樣，我年輕的時候也是一枝花，不但很多人追，做證券交易還賺了不少錢。我們那個年代，錢很好賺，一、兩百萬都不看在眼底，所以一直以來，我都覺得想抄捷徑。

Don’t look down on me. I was beautiful once. Not only was I pursued by many, I made quite a bit trading securities. At the time, money came easily. One, two million was nothing, so I always wanted to take shortcuts.

I made at least a hundred grand each month, and when my boss split the profits, it was an easy few extra mils for me. I felt money came without effort, so I hardly bothered to save. Also, my mother was addicted to gambling and constantly asked for money. So, I never had much on me.

我媽和原生家庭感情不好，所以早婚，但婚姻只維持了幾年。不知道是不是複製媽媽的路，我在22歲那年第一次結婚，婚姻維持不到三年。那時候我要照顧兩個孩子跟我媽，我媽還會用照顧小孩來勒索我，不斷跟我要錢去賭博，沒多久我就彈盡糧絕，孩子的爸把孩子接走；我也辭掉證券工作，去百貨公司當櫃姊。

My mother had a poor relationship with her parents, so she got married just to leave the household as soon as possible. Unfortunately, her marriage lasted only a few years. I’m not sure whether I followed her path. I also got married young, at the age of 22, and the marriage did not last past three years.

I took care of my two children and mother at the time. My mother would even use my kids to blackmail me for gambling money. I soon ran out of funds, so the father of my children came and took them away. I left my job at the securities firm and became a salesclerk at a department store.

After going through my savings, I was unable to pay rent and even my electric bills. The electricity was shut off a few times, so I had to borrow money from the young social workers at my community center.

我們這個社區有年輕的社工開一個據點，讓一些小朋友放學後有地方去可以去，我有時候會去跟他們聊天，他們都會定期關心我的狀況。付不出房租，我就跟他們借錢，借到第三次的時候，甚至是社工自掏腰包。他們知道這樣不是辦法，就開始幫我媒合一些打工機會，所以我先前有去醫院做清潔工作，之後體檢通過，我就會去超市打工。

The young social workers have this place they keep open for children after school. I would chat with them and they would periodically check on me. When I could not pay rent, I would borrow from them. When they lent me money the third time, they took it out of their own pockets, but realized that this was not the way to go. They started finding me work. I first worked as a janitor in a hospital, and after I passed my physical, I worked part-time at a supermarket.

我小時候媽媽就情緒不穩、長期吃藥，想不到我也因為恐慌症，變成要長期服藥。不過我每次來到他們的據點，就覺得很心安、很放鬆，我都說他們這邊是「心安宮」。我沒有能力捐錢，只能偶爾捐發票給他們。現在不去想鹹魚翻身，也不抄捷徑了，只希望好好工作賺錢養小孩，不要再跟社工借錢了啦。

When I was young, my mother was emotionally unstable and relied on medication. I never thought I would one day suffer from panic disorder and also become dependent on medication.

But now, when I come to the community center, I feel relaxed and at peace. I tell them that this is my “Tranquil Heart Temple.” I don’t have the ability to donate, so I would occasionally give them my invoices (for lottery). Now, I no longer want to strike it rich and take shortcuts. I just want to have a stable job, raise my kids, and not have to borrow money from social workers.

Ovarian cysts....hair loss around the tummy area (not attributed to mites) is one of the common indicators of cysts in sows. In many cases sows show limited or no signs they are suffering from cysts....

Other indicators are: crusty nipples, sore tummy, ongoing humping, bleeding from genitals, fat tummy, grumpy behaviour, weight loss....

There are a variety of options to treat/manage : surgery (many vets prefers flank spays), medication, syringeing fluid from ovaries. Flank spays are incisions made along the spine via the back rather than the traditional stomach incision.

We prefer removal so as to negate ongoing health issues and pain. Ages have ranged from 2 years to 6 years & all have been successful.

Around 75% of all sows suffer from ovarian cysts...and those figures have been confirmed by scientific research.

This little girl had hers out at around 5 years of age...she recovered well. Thanks to The Wheelhouse Veterinary Centre who operated successfully and shared story (y)
