2020-02-22 03:21:20Today we went to Flushing, New York City’s biggest Chinatown, to chat with Chinese locals in Mandarin! We bargained throughout the marketplaces and supermarket. Then we ran into a legit Buddhist priest and his friends who were all totally surprised that we spoke Mandarin and Fuzhounese. We bought plenty of fruit from vendors and groceries from the supermarket using our Chinese, and lots of amazing conversations were had. Really interesting social experiment that surprised us all!

2020-02-04 05:02:03Today I went to NYC’s Brooklyn Chinatown as a clueless white guy and got food and chatted with locals in the rare Chinese dialect of Fuzhounese. They were totally stunned!!! This is Part 2 of our Fuzhounese adventure in NYC’s Brooklyn Chinatown of Sunset Park (8th Avenue).
It was a really fun prank and social experiment to see Chinese people’s reactions — both the waiters and the other patrons in Sunset Park were totally shocked! Then we walked around in the Chinese New Year parade and chatted with vendors and other people in Fuzhounese and Mandarin; their reactions were hilarious as well!

甫自大學畢業的Ralph，意外地來到拉普蘭工作，因而對於這片土地有了不一樣的認識，從近代戰爭帶來的影響、原住民「薩米人」權益進展、各種旅遊項目中的眉眉角角，到對於永續旅遊發展的反思，他都有獨到的見解。在這集紮實的節目裡，Ralph會用以下幾個角度來帶領我們認識拉普蘭——
1️⃣ (07:15) 從芬蘭近代史上的三場戰爭談起——
二次大戰期間芬蘭的冬季戰爭、繼續戰爭與拉普蘭戰爭，改變了羅瓦涅米的面貌，也意外促成聖誕老人村雛形－羅斯福小木屋的出現。想認識芬蘭與羅瓦涅米，不可不了解這三場戰爭！

【the moment I woke up from my reverie】
In the past, it had always been my dream job to work as a journalist in a country where media are globally reputed. And I used to think indignantly that it’s unfortunate for me to leave the UK simply because this has been an awful year and no employers would consider hiring a foreign worker who needs visa sponsorship when locals are also losing jobs and struggling to get a new one.
I finally realised the UK, to say it frankly, is not as a strong and habitable country as I heard of. It is, in my completely honest opinion--overrated. →

你發塗黑臉的照片我們說這是種族歧視的行為，雖然你沒有道歉，但至少你有刪除那些邪惡的照片。昨天居然決定把那部塗黑臉的影片發出來真讓我們很失望，很心傷。我們希望你把影片給刪掉再道歉，在台灣當個榜樣。
在外國人的community裡面，我們已經在籌備更有教育性的媒體來教台灣人為什麼塗黑臉不ok，但當我們還在等著，當你還不願意認錯，當你看無數的外國人和台灣人在你的影片說你的行為是種族歧視卻沒有反應，我只好發洩一下，說出一點心裡而希望這樣我能引起你的注意，還順便替那些不會講中文又沒有平台的外國人發聲，因為我們真的很不爽，又覺得很無奈。
請你不要再丟台灣的臉。我知道台灣有很多很好的人，我前兩給禮拜在反種族歧視活動都看到不少台灣人，但你們這些這麽有影響力的藝人在那麼多跟反種族歧視的活動正在進行的同時，真是令人傻眼！有一天你們會發現你們這種行為是錯的，越堅持下去，下場就會越難看。
我們外國人能理解台灣的文化不一樣，你們沒有這個塗黑臉的歷史，在這方面我們能體諒，但這件事情還是不對，而且我們現在活在地球村。我勸你們趕快刪掉影片、道歉、給全台灣以及全球的黑人他們應得的尊重。

You recently posted a picture of blackface that ignited the community's response, and although you didn't apologize you deleted those harmful photos. However yesterday we were surprised to see you had released the blackface video anyways and we were extremely disappointed and hurt by your actions. We hope you can remove the video, apologize and lead by example in Taiwan.
The foreign community is in the process of preparing educational materials that will teach locals the painful history of blackface and why it should not be done anywhere in the world. However, as we wait for those to be completed, as you continue to deny wrongdoing, as you continue to standby as countless locals and foreigners leave comments bashing the racism you spread, I must let off some steam in hopes of getting your attention. At the same time, I'm speaking for those foreigners who are hurt by what you've done, but either can't speak Chinese or don't have a platform. We're pissed and we feel helpless.
Please do not continue to embarrass Taiwan. I know Taiwan is full of good people who have supported the fight against racism over the past few weeks, but to see someone as influential as yourselves in the midst of a global fight against racism be so tone deaf is absolutely shocking. One day you will realize you are on the wrong side of history, the longer you insist you are right, the worse things will be for you in the future.
As foreigners, we can understand that Taiwanese and Western cultures are different, and that Taiwan doesn't have a history of blackface. Thus, we are forgiving in light of this, but that does not validate your actions as it is well known that we live in a globalized world in 2020. Once again, we urge you to erase the video, apologize and give black people in Taiwan and across the world the respect they deserve.
