This past year’s global situation has allowed me to fully revisit the tennis world and coach regularly again.
It has been a decade since I have worked with such an expansive pool of students. At the time, I taught and trained both children and adults ranging from the ages of 5-60, levels ranging from novice to advanced, but mostly children and teenagers.
However, a couple of years ago I did take a hiatus from showbiz and acting in China as I had the opportunity to work and travel with a professional tennis player. It was a very rewarding, yet challenging experience, to say the least.
Many people have asked me why I do not just coach and train players completely full time. I usually just smile and brush it off with a tactful
“I don’t know.”
The truth is, I have had an extreme love-hate relationship with the game.
Growing up, the time spent on court not only acted as a healthy environment where I could progress as a player and as a person, but it also acted as an escape from the difficult emotional and psychological roller coaster on the home front (I will not go into this now).
Looking back, I am so grateful to have been surrounded by coaches, from places such as India and Eastern Europe, whom understood the value of teaching and mentoring with a “school of hard knocks’ approach. They continuously reminded me that:
“There will always be people in situations worse off than you. Back home, players were playing on courts made from cow dung and with holes in their shoes, not to mention wondering when their next full meal would be.”
Though I don’t think I can honestly say that I fully understood them at the time, these reminders and perspectives acted as the rock that kept me from drifting away.
So, this is where I am coming from in terms of my relationship with tennis. 2020 has been a blessing in disguise, as I have had the opportunity to work with many wonderful people, both on and off the court.
Thanks to all my students. I hope you are learning as much as I am learning from you. Cheers.

Elon Musk
Elon Musk
Well...
★★★★★★★★★★★★
1:Jobs Overstates, Musk Understates
★★★★★★★★★★★★
Musk
> What is the future that we want? It's consisted of really appealing solar roof... then combine that with storage, and with electric cars.
It's an obvious 3-part solution... Yeah... 3 part solution... uh...
It's really not that complicated.
➜We are building a grand future - a future of endless renewable energy and clean mobility, but with the sort of convenience you couldn't even imagine.
To build this, we've had to overcome a trinity of challenges that have bedeviled generations prior:
1. Houses that generate energy during the day all by themselves
2. Efficient and integrated storage
3. And the best electric cars the world has ever seen
Ok,我寫的有點誇張,但 you get the point。
★★★★★★★★★★★★
➜ What is the economy? It is uh... at the foundation, it's labor. So what happens when there's... uh... no shortage of labor?
So I think in the long-term, there will need to be universal basic income (applause)... Not right now, because the robot doesn't work (laugh)... we just need a minute.
Essentially, in the future, physical work will be a choice... if you want to do it, you can, but you wouldn't need to do it. Obviously it has profound implications for the economy, because... the economy, at its foundational level, is labor, and capital is just distilled labor, then... is there an actual limit to the economy? Maybe not...
連開發萬用機器人的難度,他都只是說 "We just need a minute" lol。
Btw... Musk 還隨口說了一句 "capital is just distilled labor"。
Honestly, he's not even trying。

#a #climbdown
—————
有人會直譯 bottom bench、或 down the steps,當然都不對。
•Try to make the situation less embarrassing.
•With diplomatic skill, the man sitting opposite had offered him a way out.
A way out 出路,亦即我們常說的 exit strategy 離場策略。
To offer A WAY OUT,有更簡單的講法,是 to give AN OUT,就直接等於「給人一個下台階」。
不要以為 an out 只不過是 a way out 的縮短版,事實是 an out 本身就有清晰的字典解釋:
An excuse or reason for avoiding an unpleasant situation.
•We must arrange the negotiations so we have an out if we need it.
•I honestly don't want to go to that gathering, I wish I have an out.
•Our suggestion gave her an out, if she was willing to take it.
Thanks much for your help just now.
Glad to give an out.
也即是說,既可向人提供 give an out;亦可以自給 have an out,自找出路。
或問,可否亦用 offer a climb-down? 最大的分別,是一般指已見敗局,自行鳴金收兵:a retreat,as from an indefensible opinion or position 一己之見站不住腳而退場。
Coronavirus laws may not go ahead — as PM mulls a climbdown. //
