昨天看到了這個挑戰時，整個人被打擊了。😅

我的先天條件使我唱歌時很有爆發力。
（這樣講或許聽起來不謙虛，不過我還是蠻清楚自己優勢在哪裡啦～）
加上 小時候瘋狂模仿 席琳•狄翁 和其他的diva使我飆高音時 很自在。
演出或比賽時永遠選擇大歌，很少數有複雜的「連音」。
（抱歉，riff中文怎麼說我還真的不知道）

Nobody Love出來時，我聽到那段覺得真的太厲害了。跟著唱時，到了那一句唱個「差不多」，改編版之類的。最終結果就是沒有學會那個「連音」。

很難承認的是，因為我的歌聲從小就被周圍的人讚賞，所以長大後，碰到了一個在「聲樂」裡無法很快把握的東西，我就會說服自己maybe不是我的風格，maybe這首歌不是很喜歡之類的。
坦白講，就是他媽的怕出醜啊。無法面對自己會在最擅長的事有做不到的。呵呵。
到了今天還是不太會riff。

挑戰試了一次後就打算放棄了，覺得PO到限時動態再tag她真的會很丟臉。
看了個電影後還是很不服氣，所以那一句就斷斷續續練了四五個小時。練到吃晚餐時，氣到沒胃口。多想收放自如的唱那一句！
（鄰居真的辛苦了。我真的真的練了好久）

和你們分享一下我卡卡的影片是想逼自己進步，放下給自己在唱歌上的形象。有些人可能覺得這樣對自己要求太高，不過不要求自己就是真的不會進步的啊！

下個目標，金屬嘶吼唱腔（開玩笑）

I was surprisingly really triggered by the challenge today. 😅

I know I have a powerful voice. And baby Sophie imitated Celine (& other divas) so much that belting high notes = EZ.
I’d always pick big songs for shows and performances, which happened to have minimal riffs.

When Nobody Love came out, I remember doing my own version of her riff, just like I’d do for most riffs.

It sucks to admit, but I got used at being praised for being a belter and a good singer since childhood. It resulted in me actively running away from songs I couldn’t easily do vocally later in my life.
AKA I. Can’t. Fucking. Riff.

I just couldn’t face not being good at something I am known to be good at. Fucking lol ( /s)

I did the challenge and the first take was unbelievably gross, so I decided to just not do it.
A Netflix movie later and I was still triggered so I decided to practice. Ended up practicing on and off for about 4 hours. Just. That. Line. Still can’t sing it properly.
(Honestly I feel really bad for my neighbours today)

I don’t consider this as being “too hard” on myself. This is what I chose to do for a living, and truthfully I have been slacking off.

All this to say, I’m dumping my edit of some bad takes that aren’t too embarrassing cause I’m trying to own up that I suck at things but since it’s social media, let me still filter just how much I sucked hehehhe. I hope that this will get me to be more responsible at practicing my riffs!!!

This past year’s global situation has allowed me to fully revisit the tennis world and coach regularly again.

It has been a decade since I have worked with such an expansive pool of students. At the time, I taught and trained both children and adults ranging from the ages of 5-60, levels ranging from novice to advanced, but mostly children and teenagers.

However, a couple of years ago I did take a hiatus from showbiz and acting in China as I had the opportunity to work and travel with a professional tennis player. It was a very rewarding, yet challenging experience, to say the least.

Many people have asked me why I do not just coach and train players completely full time. I usually just smile and and brush it off with a tactful “I don’t know.”

The truth is, I have had an extreme love-hate relationship with the game.

Growing up, the time spent on court not only acted as a healthy environment where I can progress as a player and a person, but it also acted as an escape from the difficult emotional and psychological roller coaster on the home front (I will not go into this now).

Looking back, I am so grateful to have been surrounded by coaches, from places such as India and Eastern Europe, whom understood the value of teaching and mentoring with a “school of hard knocks’ approach. They continuously reminded me that:

“There will always be people in situations worse off than you. Back home, players were playing on courts made from cow dung and with holes in their shoes, not to mention wondering when their next full meal would be.”

Though I don’t think I can honestly say that I fully understood them at the time, but these reminders and perspectives acted as the rock that kept me from drifting away.

So, this is where I am coming from in terms of my relationship with tennis. 2020 has been a blessing in disguise, as I have had the opportunity to work with some wonderful people, both on and off the court.

可有聽過這句話？「人生在世不外處理三面：人面、場面及情面」。一句過，也就是面子問題。
於是，見到有人困於尷尬處境，要幫他挽回面子，可以給他一個下台階，讓他脫困。

下台階，英文怎麼說呢？有人會直譯 bottom bench、或 down the steps，當然都不對。也有意譯：
•Try to make the situation less embarrassing. 嘗試令情况沒那麼尷尬。
但這樣形容不夠完善，因為可以純粹是打個哈哈打圓場，缺乏下台階包含的實質意思。

另有一句：
•With diplomatic skill, the man sitting opposite had offered him a way out. 坐在他對面的男子，以外交手腕給他一個下台階。
A way out 出路，亦即我們常說的 exit strategy 離場策略。

To offer A WAY OUT，有更簡單的講法，是 to give AN OUT，就直接等於「給人一個下台階」。

不要以為 an out 只不過是 a way out 的縮短版，事實是 an out 本身就有清晰的字典解釋：
An excuse or reason for avoiding an unpleasant situation. 避免不快場面的藉口，或理由。

•We must arrange the negotiations so we have an out if we need it. 我們必須搞好談判安排，以備有需要時體面地離場。也就是下台階。
•I honestly don't want to go to that gathering, I wish I have an out. 我真的不想去那個聚會。我希望我有個好的藉口。
•Our suggestion gave her an out, if she was willing to take it. 我們的建議給了她下台階，還看她是否願意接受。

也有對話作例：
•甲：Thanks much for your help just now. 謝謝你剛才幫忙。
乙：Glad to give an out. 樂意提供一個下台階。
也即是說，既可向人提供 give an out；亦可以自給 have an out，自找出路。

要留意的是，英文的 an out 多純粹指避開尷尬不快的場面，回看中文下台階牽涉的「面子」成分，就重許多了。

或問，可否亦用 offer a climb-down？也可以。Climb-down 指往下爬，意境更見清晰。最大的分別，是一般指已見敗局，自行鳴金收兵：a retreat，as from an indefensible opinion or position 一己之見站不住腳而退場。

看這句英國新聞標題：
Coronavirus laws may not go ahead — as PM mulls a climbdown. 防疫法例或未能通過——首相（Prime Minister）考慮自找下台階。//
