‘Pareidolia’ is the psychological phenomenon of finding familiar images within random sources - the man on the moon being the universal example. This experience is often the origin of inspiration for artists - however conscious or subconscious - with Da Vinci writing of it being a device for painters seeking revelation.

The imagined ghouls in Akkara Naktamna’s photo series ‘Signs’ are the plants of Bangkok, caught goading the city before devouring it whole. The artist describes the ignored environmental elements we incorrectly assume as ‘inert’ as ‘furtively signaling each other...as in some scene from a horror sci-fi doomsday movie.’
