I will be the first one to say that I am something of a pessimist when it comes to global matters. And while Factfulness didn’t change this about me, it has certainly provided a newer, more optimistic (Hans Rosling refers to his way of thinking as “possiblist”) framework to think about the world.
While Rosling does make a lot of compelling points, I feel like it is at times necessary to employ a glass-half-empty perspective while still showing all the relevant facts and data. Just as people tend to over-dramatize certain issues, it is also human nature to pretend things are fine when they really are not. We must recognize that are more than one side to almost every problem, and consequently, a multitude of ways to tackle them.
I am still not convinced that the world is really improving by leaps and bounds. Sure, life expectancy is rising, poverty rates are falling, but new issues or old ones rekindled create new dilemmas each and every day. Improvements as measured using old parameters do not necessarily reflect an overall positive outlook for society as many global trends are either too ill-defined or too early to be quantified and analyzed, but still their impact must be taken into account.
However, this is a good book that provides ten refreshing ways to examine what people are saying about the f-ed up world we live in, and I recommend it.

He is credited with introducing various influential concepts and terms in the study of second-language acquisition, including the acquisition-learning hypothesis, the input hypothesis, the monitor hypothesis, the affective filter, and the natural order hypothesis. Most recently, Krashen promotes the use of free voluntary reading during second-language acquisition, which he says “is the most powerful tool we have in language education, first and second.” Dr. Krashen is currently professor emeritus at University of Southern California.

今天發了spybait 的影片。有一陣子的操作影片都沒有附上泳型的連結。其實沒必要做這個動作，名字都有了，你們只要餵狗或是水管就找得到了。今天逛街看到這個介紹影片，覺得做得很特別就分享一下。全英文，有興趣練英聽的可以參考看看。這個餌的重點就是慢速平捲跟落，他有說那個速度是會讓你感到不舒服的速度，所以我影片裡才會說了好幾次我收的太快。
