This is my #newyearresolution: dink wine from a region or a grape variety that you are not familiar with. Step out of your comfort zone; expand your knowledge in wine. ​ ​ Like this 2016 El Vínculo Alejairén Crianza, made from 100% Airén, a native Spanish white grape variety mostly found in La Mancha, would be a great example to explore. Grape are sourced from Paraje la Golosa estate, which is considered one of the best sites in D.O. La Mancha. The average of the vines is 25-year-old. This Airén is aged 24 months in French oak barrels and 6 months in bottle. It is also ​the first barrel-aged Airén made in Spain. ​ Gorgeous light gold color glitters through the glass, expressive aromas of yellow bouquet, dried apricot, toasted walnut, sweet baking spice, and butterscotch immediately hit your face. Full-bodied with uplifting acidity, round mouthfeel, and long finish.
