Laptop with Six Viruses Auctioned for Over US$1m
.
Summary:
Lot 666, ‘The Persistence of Chaos’, a masterpiece so magnificent that it can kill: a laptop containing an amalgam of six deadliest computer viruses in history, chaotic and yet orderly, dangerous but also glorious. To think the malware managed to cause roughly US$95 billion (~HK$745 billion) in global economic damages in total, and now it is all securely trapped on this very computer. May it serve as a reminder of how hazardous it can be if malicious software is utilised as a weapon. Someone is bidding $1 million… $1.2 million… more! Any more bids? Once… twice… sold!
.
Language Enhancement:
Bid (n./v.)(出價)
Bidder (n.)(出價的人)
到拍賣網站「bid 嘢」,該 bid 的真正意思並非「拍賣」(正確的字是 auction (v.))而是「出價」,作名詞時的常用搭配是 make/place/put + a bid,作動詞時的搭配則是 bid + $ + for + N.。出價競投的人士是 bidder(s)。
e.g. I don’t think I can beat that bid. The price is simply too high.
e.g. This item will go to the highest bidder.
