Oscar Winner Delivers Emotional Speech on Global Injustice
.
Summary:
It was a truly spectacular moment when Joaquin Phoenix, Best Actor Oscar of the 92th The Academy, courageously used his voice “for the voiceless” in his emotional Oscar acceptance speech.
The 45-year-old vegan first told the audience that when it comes to various distressing issues humanity is facing, such as gender inequality, racism, queer rights, indigenous rights and animal rights, what we are dealing with is one thing in common – injustice, which essentially arises from the belief that “one nation, one people, one race, one gender or one species has the right to dominate, control and use and exploit another with impunity.” Phoenix went on to point out that we have become “very disconnected from the natural world” and explain how we enter the natural world and rob it of its resources by providing an example of how the dairy industry is mistreating cows. “We feel entitled to artificially inseminate a cow, and when she gives birth, we steal her baby, even though her cries of anguish are unmistakable. Then, we take her milk that’s intended for her calf, and we put it in our coffee and our cereal,” he said.
Finally, Phoenix urged everyone to “use love and compassion as our guiding principles” to create new systems that are beneficial to all sentient beings and the environment.

anguish (n.)

(Using Possessives with Gerunds)
Many people believe that students wearing uniform is beneficial.
Many people 是主詞,believe 是及物動詞,that students wearing uniforms is beneficial 是名詞子句當受詞。
======================
======================
Many people believe that wearing uniforms is beneficial for all students. [O]
Many people believe that school uniforms are beneficial for all students. [O]
Many people believe that all students should wear uniforms because of the numerous benefits. [O]
He resents Mary being promoted.
He resents Mary’s being promoted. [O]
He resents Mary’s promotion. [O]
---------------------------------------
Thank you for you listening. [X]
Thank you for your listening.
Thank you for listening. [O]
---------------------------------------
I appreciate he participating in the event. [X]
I appreciate him participating in the event. [X]
I appreciate his participation in the event. [O]
