[爆卦]antecedent文法是什麼?優點缺點精華區懶人包

為什麼這篇antecedent文法鄉民發文收入到精華區:因為在antecedent文法這個討論話題中,有許多相關的文章在討論,這篇最有參考價值!作者scju (QQ)看板Eng-Class標題[文法] 關係代名詞that該擺哪裡?時間Sat J...

大家好,請教兩個問題:

一、
The phrase “$64 dollar question” became a catchword to the point that it
^^^^
這個that子句如何還原?

became the program's name, and people applied the phrase to any very important question
question or matter.

是這樣嗎:

it became the program's name to the point , and people applied the phrase to
^^^^^^^^^^^^
還原到這裡
any very important question...

還是說那個that是名詞子句的關係詞,後面的子句是the point的同位語?

另外請問一下,to the point在這裡要如何翻譯呢?

---

二、
Even more popular was the 1950s television spinoff, The $64,000 Question,
with the phrase, now adjusted to inflation, catching on in popular speech,
but not to the extent that its antecedent did.

請問這一句中間的The $64,000 Question, with the phrase, now adjusted to
inflation是否通通可當插入句來看,

可省為:
Even more popular was the 1950s television spinoff, but not to the extent
that its antecedent did.

後面形容詞子句that可還原為:
its antecedent did the extent.(還是...did to the extent?)

(要怎麼判斷先行詞有沒有含to呢?例一的to the point也是)

前半部可視為倒裝,所以也可還原:
the 1950s television spinoff was Even more popular...

請問各位,感謝!

原文出處 http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/%2464+question

$64 question
The essential or ultimate question. One of the most popular radio quiz shows
during the 1940s was Take It or Leave It in which contestants strived to
answer question after question until they reached the top prize of sixty-four
silver dollars. The questions increased in difficulty, and at any point
contestants could choose to stop and keep the amount of money they had won to
that point. The phrase “$64 dollar question” became a catchword to the
point that it became the program's name, and people applied the phrase to any
very important question or matter. Even more popular was the 1950s television
spinoff, The $64,000 Question, with the phrase, now adjusted to inflation,
catching on in popular speech, but not to the extent that its antecedent did.

vincentman: 1.that=so that,表目的(以便,為了…) 07/31 00:16
vincentman: the point是前文提到"回答問題的關卡"。"...question" 07/31 00:19
vincentman: 變成了回答問題那一刻的口號,為的是讓它變成節目的名 07/31 00:20

vincentman: the phrase是插入句,now (which is)adjusted to the 07/31 00:23
vincentman: inflation, which catches on in popular speech 07/31 00:25
vincentman: 上面打錯,應該是catched不是catches 07/31 00:27

喔喔,原來如此,
找到三個辭典的說明,供各位參考

朗文辭典
that (conjunction.)

(formal) in order that something may happen or someone may do something:

Give us strength that we may stand against them.

(確實如V大所言,這裡的that=in order that=so that。
也感謝K大,的確是「因此..」,帶出後面的結果)

(3) —used as a function word to introduce a subordinate clause expressing

另外,這句
Even more popular was the 1950s television spinoff, but not to the extent
that its antecedent did.

後面形容詞子句that還原,查了一下google,我判斷是這樣比較合理:

its antecedent did the extent.

有誤請指正,感謝!

dunchee: -> 5 .... ("to the point where" 是另一寫法. "to the 08/02 01:26
dunchee: point at which" 也有,較少。"... in which"也有,更少) 08/02 01:27
dunchee: 2. 你"遮掉"太多。你注意看"你的句子"整體語意: 既然這個 08/02 01:27
dunchee: spinoff(比前個節目)更受歡迎,那麼這名稱phrase怎麼沒有 08/02 01:28
dunchee: 到達前個節目的程度? 意思上前後矛盾 08/02 01:28
dunchee: "with the phrase...."這部份需要保留(之前講的是"節目( 08/02 01:28
dunchee: 本身)",但是此處是開始講"phrase(不是節目本身)") 08/02 01:28
dunchee: 而"now adjusted to inflation"指的是「現在通行的」 08/02 01:28
dunchee: phrase(Price那本書是2011出版),那麼現在一般是講"the 08/02 01:29
dunchee: million-dollar question" <- 是這個phrase沒有....云云 08/02 01:29
dunchee: 至於最後的 .... did. : 08/02 01:30
dunchee: 前文有講到"phrase (受歡迎程度) to the extent"(意思 08/02 01:30
dunchee: 相近)的是這個: 08/02 01:30
dunchee: "phrase became a catchword to the point ...."(畢竟是" 08/02 01:30
dunchee: "受歡迎",所以才成為 catchword) 08/02 01:30
dunchee: (-> did) (->to the extent) 08/02 01:30
dunchee: 剩下的你自己玩 08/02 01:30
喔喔,感謝D大!

1.若用"to the point where",以文法而言,應可以還原為it became the program's
name at the point.
(但就意思來說,似乎把那個that當成表示「結果」的so that來解釋比較通順(?))

2.這樣一看,確實省過頭了= =。那句的意思是不是說,雖然後來的那個$64000的節目
比較受歡迎,但是以口號來說,還是$64這個「片語」比較紅。

3.原來這個did意近於前面的became a catchword.
