[Mentougou (门头沟), Beijing] This gotta be one of the most exciting “tomb hunting” trip I had when I was in Beijing, a local friend and I explored the tomb of Zaiying (钟郡王载滢), the second son of Yixin, Prince Gong (恭亲王奕䜣) which was located in a temple called the West Peak Temple (西峰寺) outside Beijing city. The tomb’s underground chamber has been left open after it was looted in the 1930s, however it wasn’t open to tourists. Although it was daytime when I was there, but it was almost completely dark in the chamber, we had to bring our own touch lights and relied on one or two lightings set up by the local authorities. Miraculously, the underground chamber is flooded by spring water, it has been there all year round for more than a hundred years, of course, the tomb robbers did not leave anything valuable behind except 1 gold penny. Zaiying was wanted by the Eight Alliance Army (八国联军) for his active role in the Boxer Rebellion (义和团运动), the Empress Dowager Cixi punished him together with another few members from the imperial family. I am sure I haven't tried all of them, but they would be based on these recipes somehow as it's been selling for at least 60 Years since Guangzhou 廣州 > Hong Kong 香港 days, but somehow skipped thru Macau side 🎉🎉 So don't ask me where else is good coz some do them still, apart from the above, and suddenly if they try to revive an old recipe it pops up out of nowhere, but here is one of my favorites over the past decades 😂😂😎
