朗誦節的比賽快將來臨，最近和一眾學生在進行朗誦特訓。
家長中不乏有心人，想幫學童為朗誦節做準備，但又不知從何入手。其中一個最常見的問題就是，朗誦表演或練習的時候應否加上動作？
有些人會說：「朗誦姐！又唔係戲劇表演！使咩動作呀？」
比賽規則訂明：只要這些動作對提升表演水平有幫助，同學可以做動作。但這篇文章意旨並非從比賽規則的角度，分析做動作的好壞。
有些家長/同學以為動作的作用是向觀眾表達：「我非常投入」 的信息，加強表演的感染力。
但其實感染觀眾，並非做動作唯一，甚至，並非最重要的作用。而且，如果觀眾感覺到你做動作，純粹帶有「做給他們看」的目的，更會給人一種「為做而做」的刻意感，讓表演失真，因而失去最動人的真摯感。
那，做動作的最重要目的是什麼呢？
同學練習時，加上適當的動作和表情，例如眼部的活動過，頭部的活動和手部的活動，這些動作都有助提醒喚起朗誦者本身對文字的情緒反應。著名的行為科學作家和心理學家Daniel Goleman在其著作Emotional Intelligence曾經表示：Body language doesn’t solely express emotions - it also evokes them. So, for example, by mirroring another person’s tense gesture, you may induce tenseness in yourself. （身體語言不單充當表達情緒的作用，也充當喚起情緒的作用。所以，舉例來說，透過模仿其他人緊張的身體語言，自己也會因此而感到緊張。）
小孩朗誦的時候，需要透過詩歌裡描述的情況、意境和氣氛的理解和想像才能在演繹過程中展現出恰當的情感。雖然朗誦節的詩歌內容大多較簡單，但要做到這種程度的情感的投入，對於人生經驗有限而且英文又是第二語言的孩童來說，並不簡單。而且，動作是有形和具體的，而感情則是抽象的。做動作能幫助孩子投入詩歌的情感世界，充分演繹其神韻和精髓，可賦予朗誦這個語文教學活動戲劇的功能，充分發揮其情感教育和語文教育兩種功能。
換而言之，做動作的目的，是要增強孩童對詩歌的投入感，而非向觀眾假裝投入呢！
