【寫文章和作曲一樣，節奏決定優劣】

昨天和這班高小的同學上課，學生問你一個問題，我覺得很發人深省：描寫主角鬼鬼祟祟地爬入姐姐房間裏，弄壞姐姐的樂器時，sneaky 明明是鬼鬼祟祟的意思，surreptitiously 也是鬼鬼祟祟的意思，為什麼要用 surreptitiously 這個字代替 sneaky 呢？
我的解釋是這樣，surreptitious 這個字有四個音節，把鬼祟地爬行的感覺更慢條斯理地表達出來，拉長了鬼祟地行動的過程，更能夠製造懸疑感，吸引讀者看下去，讓讀者更投入在疑惑中，着急想知道主角究竟會否在過程中被逮着呢？
學生學語文的時候一般不會把作文當成作曲一樣，但其實，好的文章和好的樂曲有異曲同工之處，好的文章，讀起來，節奏必然是恰當的，也會令人印象深刻，彷彿在聽一個引人入勝的故事一樣。
