🛠During this pandemic, I have been in and out of the dentist’s office almost 20 times. On 6 separate occasions, I spent hours with my face numb from anesthesia, and days after with crazy sensitivity.* But out on the street my face was always covered by a mask, so no one knew. Looking back at this photo today I think about pains that people (anyone, everyone) go through, that are hidden, sometimes intentionally sometimes not, from the rest of the world. In 2021, humanity is divided on so many fronts. There are wars on so many levels. And there are so many hair-trigger topics. Our beliefs are substantiated in personal experience and reason - and therefore all valid and true. And so it’s easy to make the ‘other side’ stupid and wrong in our book... And for the ‘other side’ to do the same thing to us... And so the cycle continues. I have no solutions to heal this division. It is something I discuss frequently with colleagues and friends, but none of us have answers or cure-alls. So, for today, a happening process, maybe a reminder, definitely a reminder to myself - to be aware that there are invisible pains, struggles, obstacles that others go through. Just because we can’t see them, doesn’t mean they are not real. Also, it’s easy to post a photo of dental work being done. It’s harder to post a photo of depression, anxiety, grief being experienced. Big love to you.♥️ *the short story is - I used to swim competitively and that ‘O’ shape I would make with my mouth to breathe shifted the shape of my jaw. I also got my wisdom teeth taken out, and I also had braces on early. Twice. So, I was a complicated but seemingly ‘fun’ case for a competent orthodontist. And the anesthesia was applied because my teeth had become super sensitive after losing most of my enamel from grinding. @aaronmartintin says I don’t grind anymore.
