Shalom! Today, we celebrate the glorious resurrection of our Lord Jesus from the dead! He rose to eternal life in a new glorified body, never to die again. Through His own death, He conquered Death! He is the Firstfruits of the resurrection from the dead—the assurance that we shall also join Him in heaven with our new glorified bodies when the Rapture happens.

Today, let's look at the sheaf offering under the Law of Moses which is a picture of Jesus' resurrection from the dead on the third day after He was crucified. This one is a beautiful revelation so don’t miss it!

Why Jesus was Really Crucified on Friday

“For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” (Matthew‬ ‭12:40‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Some people have been saying that Jesus was actually crucified on a Wednesday and not a Friday.
They say this to account for the full 24 hours of three days and three nights of Jesus’ burial which He prophesied Himself.

However, the “Wednesday crucifixion” teaching is wrong. Let’s look at Luke 24:

“One of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who doesn’t know the things which have happened there in these days?” He said to them, “What things?” They said to him, “The things concerning Jesus, the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people; and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. But we were hoping that it was he who would redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.” (Luke‬ ‭24:18-21‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

On the Sunday (first day of the week) where Jesus resurrected, He spoke to Cleopas and the other disciple on the Road to Emmaus.

They said that that day (Sunday) was “the third day” since Jesus was crucified.

If Jesus was crucified on Wednesday, based on a 24 hour counting system, there would be a gap of more than three full days from Wednesday to Sunday.

How then can we account for the full three days and three nights of Jesus’ burial in the tomb?

In Jewish counting of days, a part of a day is considered as a whole day.

See the Book of Esther for an example.

Esther asked the Jews to fast for her for three days and three nights before she goes to see the king.

““Go, gather together all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day. I and my maidens will also fast the same way. Then I will go in to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish.” So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.” (Esther‬ ‭4:16-17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The next chapter, we see Esther going to see the king on the third day, even though 3 full days and nights haven’t passed yet, and yet “the third day” is considered as a full 3 days and 3 nights.

“Now on the third day, Esther put on her royal clothing, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, next to the king’s house. The king sat on his royal throne in the royal house, next to the entrance of the house.” (Esther‬ ‭5:1‬ ‭WEB)

According to the Jewish system of counting days, Jesus was buried for a full three days and three nights. The Jews count their days from evening to morning (Genesis 1:5).

Day 1: Buried on Nisan 14 (Friday) before the Sabbath day started at 6pm (Luke 23:50-56, John 19:42).

Day 2: Jesus in tomb on Nisan 15 (Friday evening and Saturday daytime).

Day 3: Jesus in tomb until He rose before the break of dawn on Nisan 16 (Saturday evening and Sunday morning).

In conclusion: Jesus was really crucified on Friday, buried in the tomb before 6pm on Friday evening and He resurrected on Sunday before the break of dawn.

Through His death, burial and resurrection, Jesus fulfilled the feasts/statutes of the Passover, the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and the Sheaf Offering respectively.

I don’t usually ask people to share my post, but feel free to do so this time to clear up any misunderstandings about the legitimacy of “Good Friday”.

Blessed Feast of Unleavened Bread! Under the Law, the priests offered a “sheaf offering” before the Lord on the Sunday right after the Passover. Read how Jesus’ resurrection is the fulfillment of this beautiful offering! Shalom 🙌 #sheafoffering #Jesus
