Trong nhóm mình có bạn nào là data scientist không?

Gần đây, có khá nhiều tranh luận về công việc của một data scientist cần biết những gì. Nhiều công ty muốn data scientist làm full-stack: quản lý hoàn toàn một dự án từ lúc viết code thử nghiệm trên máy tính cá nhân (development) đến lúc đẩy code ra ngoài cho thiên hạ đều dùng (production).

Bài viết này thảo luận:
1. Có nên yêu cầu data scientist trở thành full-stack?
2. Lý do khiến công ty yêu cầu data scientist rành rọt hai kỹ năng khác nhau hoàn toàn: kỹ năng xây dựng mô hình thử nghiệm (cần biết nhiều về data science), và kỹ năng đẩy code (cần biết nhiều về infrastructure).
3. So sánh một số công cụ có thể giúp data scientist không phải động chân động tay đến infrastructure mà vẫn có thể quản lý một dự án từ đầu đến cuối.

Bài này có lẽ động chạm nỗi niềm của nhiều data scientist nên khá nhiều người đồng tình và bình luận trên Hacker News.

鴞鸚鵡是極度瀕危物種，1995年全球只餘下約50隻生活於新西蘭的斯圖爾特島上，現今有約200隻。科學家一直擔心牠們群族太小，會會因近親繁殖導致基因的有害突變越來越多而出現遺傳疾病。但最近研究發現，牠們基因裡的有害突變比預期的要少，而且有些原有的有害突變亦消失了。
Kakapo is a critically endangered species; there were only around 50 of them left living on Stewart Island of New Zealand in 1995, and now there are around 200 of them on the island. Scientists worry the population of kakapo is too small and inbreeding will cause more harmful mutations and lead to genetic diseases. However, a recent study found that there are actually fewer harmful mutation in their genes than scientists expected, some original harmful mutations have disappeared as well.

本月初，一項新法律在美國德州生效，禁止懷孕六週後進行人工流產，成為先進國家中最嚴格的墮胎法之一。反觀世界第二大羅馬天主教國，墨西哥最高法院週二裁定，懲罰墮胎違憲，成為墨西哥女性健康與人權倡導者的重大勝利。

The first nature documentary series on global endangered species in Taiwan, 《Orphans of the Earth》presents three new episodes in 2021 《Elves of Taiwan》，that reach out to the sky, the sea and the grasslands only to reveal precocious footages of the endangered endemic species that are known for extreme rarity, minimal sighting rate and videotaping challenges—Taiwan Grass Owls, the Taiwanese Humpback Dolphins, and the Formosan pangolins.

The production crew of “Elves of Taiwan” partakes in perhaps the most difficult animal rescue operations in line with conservation efforts and the most dignified science-based survey projects. The program unveils diversified local landscapes and endemic species completed by various angles and perspectives—from aerial rescues, ocean investigations, to underground bone excavations; it is indeed a brutally honest series that documents the conservation and restoration of the terrestrial, oceanic, and airborne endemic species in Taiwan.

In the Southwestern badlands in Taiwan, there is a very mysterious owl of terrestrial habitats, the Taiwan grass owls, and as of today, scientists are still unable to decipher its whereabouts and behaviors. Against all odds, the production team followed up all kinds of clues for two years— from bird net rescues, follow-up research, to nocturnal studies— and is finally able to present the stirring life story of these aerial elves of Taiwan as they face the changes and destructions in their habitats.
