Stop and smell the flowers 🌿🌷✨🦋. . . Everyday we are busy with our busy life, do we even notice the beauty around us? My morning started on the wrong side of the bed at 6:58am as one of my son’s school bus didn’t come, don’t ask me why only one son got on the bus and one had to walk a distance to another location to wait for another school bus. Anyway I had to reschedule all my morning meetings to drive one son to school which took me an hour to and fro !! I’m sharing here to let out some steam 😶‍🌫️ Motherhood - One needs to be able to accommodate and react instantly when things didn’t workout as planned. I am either air petting the cat or bow downing to the great Professor Caroline Kieu Linh of UC Davis for forgetting about and or canceling her meetings today to spend some time with me. ( She literally got on a zoom meeting to tell everyone she had to reschedule because there's a famous person sitting behind her in her living room.) Dr. Kieu Linh was one of the first Americans to live and do research in Hanoi when Vietnam formalized relations with the US again in the early 90s. She is still one of the leading academic minds on Vietnam today and I always always learn something new about Vietnam when I am around her. You think I know Vietnam? Nah. She knows Vietnam. And it is a luxury and privilege to have gotten to know her over the years. She even wrote me an amazing letter of recommendation for USC even though she was never my professor, but she wrote it from a perspective of a true fan of my videos on the Vietnamese diaspora and for that I will always be grateful of the help and the fangirling. In addition to our similar views on politics, activism, and Vietnam. We share the same love for aquariums, fish, plants, and birds too. I am glad to have another friend in the Bay Area. The last time I came over to her house was three years ago and time definitely had flown by... And speaking of which, my time in the Bay Area is wrapping up real soon, but I can't wait to come back for more wisdom from such an influential scholar in the field of Vietnam studies.
