[Singapore] Appended some pictures I had taken earlier during the e-Getai performances, where these popular artistes had once again showcased their talents in singing, hosting and most importantly, to encourage the elderly to get vaccinated and keeping them safe at home. Getai, which means “song stage” (歌台) in Chinese, refers to variety performances which entertain both the living and the dead, as they are usually staged during the Hungry Ghost Festival in the seventh lunar month, but they became year-round affairs before the COVID-19 hits the world. I used to cover getai stories for many years when I was still with the press, and I have witnessed as many as 4000 people crowding around the stage to show support for their idols, but such performances came to a halt when the pandemic broke out. Fortunately, some getai organisers are able to provide virtual shows, even though it lacks the loud music, bustling atmosphere, and close interactions with the audience that the physical getai has, but I am afraid that this model might have to go on for some time due to safe distancing measures. In April, Arno arrived at Vancouver. We were confident that Arno could find a sweet home very quickly as he is an incredibly friendly dog. However, after three months, Arno became quite anxious and over-excited due to the change in environment. He rushed when he was out walking and guarded his food when he was eating which made the volunteers worry. Last week, Arno moved to new midway home in Langley and there were two medium-sized dogs and two cats. We were so worried about whether Arno would fight with them but he was incredibly friendly. Oreo, one of the dogs in this family originally didn’t like Arno and kept barking but Arno was persistently friendly. After two days, they were all getting along with each other. Arno also licks the mum a lot to show his full love. We presume that Arno enjoys playing with dogs as this allows him to release his energy and to have a sense of stability in his new home and return to the Arno we all know and love in Taiwan. This article is for friends of Taiwan to understand current situation of Arno. We also hope you guys can share this information to friends and families who live near Langley, Canada to find him a future home. Arno’s information -Little boy who is 1.5 years old with the weight 66.14 lb. -Energetic and get excited easily so he will need a big yard. -Outdoor toilet trained only. -Not suitable for the family with little kids as he might knock down the kids. -When he gets too excited, he might bite your hands. -He might rush when he sees squirrels or rabbits but it can be controlled. -He guarded his own food when he was in volunteer’s home and now is still under observation. -If you enjoy outdoor activities and you are patient, Arno is going to be a great partner as he is always energetic and enthusiastic.
