跟住end with -y嘅2-syllable adjectives , 例如: hap-py, ti-dy, 就會跟”-ier”變”happier”同”tidier”, 至於其他2-syllable字就會跟more同most, 所以”hand-some”, “po-lite”就會係”more handsome”同”more polite”
3-syllable或更多syllables嘅字就一定係用”more”同”most”, 例如beau-ti-ful, in-tel-li-gent, 就會係”more beautiful”, “more intelligent”。
最後一啲compound adjectives, 例如”well-known”同”good-looking”因為一定多於一個音節而會係跟”more”/“most”。

好啦,但其實grammar book學嘅係未必係全面,喺comparatives同superlatives嘅世界唔係一定會跟死一邊”-er”/“-est”或者”more”/“most”嘅rules。
好似好多2-syllable嘅字即使唔係-y尾嘅其實係可以跟”-er”, “-est”, 例如”politer”, “commoner”。除非係end with ”-ing”, “-ed”, “-ful”, “-less”嘅字就一定要跟”more”/“most”,當中尤其以一啲end with an unstressed vowel, /l/同/e(r)/嘅字(讀音而非串法)更常用”-er”同”-est”, 例如”simple”, “clever”同”quiet”就會係”simpler”, “cleverer”, “quieter”。
