[Former Supreme Court Building, Singapore] The old Supreme Court Building have played a significant role in Singapore’s history, the general layout of the building exemplifies British colonial architecture, and it was the last classical building to be built in Singapore on 3 August 1939.
The pediment sculpture (an allegory of justice) which characterized the Supreme Court is a work by Florentine sculptor Augusto Martelli. Lady Justice has often been depicted as a blindfolded woman carrying a set of scales and a sword. She symbolises fair and equal administration of the law, without corruption, favour and greed or prejudice.
The scales symbolise the weighing of evidence and it should stand on its own, while the sword represented authority in ancient times and conveys the idea that justice can be swift and final. However there are some statues of Lady Justice without a blindfold, this is because she was originally not blindfolded and her “maidenly form” is supposed to guarantee her impartiality which makes the blindfold redundant.
The transformation of Singapore from a struggling, poor country into one of the most affluent nations in the world – within a single generation – has often been touted as an “economic miracle”. The vision and pragmatism shown by its leaders has been key, as has its notable political stability.
What has been less celebrated, however no less critical to Singapore’s urban development, is the country’s application of the rule of law. The rule of law has been fundamental to Singapore’s success. ⚖️ 📍Singapore.🇸🇬

平面設計由圓頂入口處向左右延伸,造型相同卻不對稱;
