#tbt to the press conference after bringing back the Miss Chinese International crown to NY! But more importantly, I need y'all's opinion on something!! I started in my first pageant when I was 18 and after winning Miss Chinatown USA, I cut off all my hair in the belief that I was done with pageantry. I felt that since I'm Asian-American and could only have a shot in Asian-American pageants. While at NYU, I thought to myself "what if I could win Chinese international? I don't want to be over the age limit one day and regret not trying" and thus competed in two more pageants. I won in Asia, even though I didn't think I'd fit into the traditional Asian beauty standards. After this, I cut off all my hair once again in the belief that I am now finally done with pageantry. Now that I am 25, I am nearing the max age limit (under 28 for Miss Universe), and I've always told myself that since I am Asian-American, I wouldn't compete well amongst the westernized beauty standards of the Big Four pageants. I researched and found that there has never been a Chinese-American winner for Miss USA/Miss America, neither a Miss Universe of Chinese descent, and only one Miss World from China. We are incredibly under represented in the big four pageant system, so my question is: should I go for one more run?? What if?? Next year would be my last chance to try 🤔
