【田徑世錦賽】攝影師哥哥「搞掂」保特
睇住呀！大家都知，喺中國過馬路，甚至喺行人路都要小心。不過，原來喺田徑場上面都好危險㗎！保特啱啱喺鳥巢輕輕鬆鬆贏咗世錦賽200米金牌，喺場邊同啲fans致謝嘅時候，後面嗰位用緊攝位車（Segway）嘅攝影師哥哥炒車，仲一嘢炒咗去保特到，搞到保特痛到生蝦咁跳！保特對腳咁重要，一隻都價值連城啦，萬一畀攝影師哥哥咁樣炒一炒搞到傷咗，攝影師哥哥宣佈定破產都得喇。好彩保特事後表示，係有少少皮外傷，不過影響唔到佢跑步，仲識講笑咁話：「我以為佢想殺咗我呀！」

Bolt streaked clear of his sprint rival to complete another double at the World Athletics Championships and when he was celebrating with the crowd an overzealous cameraman got too close for comfort, lost control of his Segway and swept the Jamaican off his feet.
The 10-times world champion did not appear badly injured by the incident, managed to see the funny side and was soon posing for pictures with his adoring crowd again.
“It didn’t actually hit me in my Achilles, it hit me in my calf area,” Bolt said. “It’s alright, I will get over it. Never a doubt [for the relays], never a doubt. I am just going to get it massaged, ice it up a bit and I should be fine.”
Bolt added: “The rumour I’m trying to start right now is that Justin Gatlin paid him off.”

We're not sure if being members of the "Chef Riley of @canvasbkk" fan club since almost 3 years now makes us the best or worse judges. But like any fan possessing such high expectations, the latest visit to try the latest menu has plenty of emotional ups and downs and also somewhere torn in-between.
The river prawn / dala flower / red spur chili in all its vibrancy of reds, browns, pinks and irrescent pool of liquid, pretty much set the tone of the entire meal. Exciting, forward, thrilling, passionate and sometimes showy and audacious.
The complicated patchwork of Thai ingredient into explosive flavours are simply phenomenal, except at times the purity of the protein, or the 'star' component somehow became overshadowed, this was the case for the caviar, river prawn and most notably the sturgeon, with its unforgettable murky and earthy flavours created by sea grapes and hausa potato. Riley manages to take us deep into the river beds with these historical sea creature, the same could be said of the beef tongue / brassicas / black garlic / fermented fish, a transporter to other exotic worlds in taste and also by the new, art on canvas approach to plating.
Like Pollock had somehow crept onto the menu without Riley acknowledging, each splatter, each drizzle, each drop had its purpose, a chaos in organisation. Although "classically Riley" constructed and meticulously formatted dishes, which we missed deeply, did thankfully reappear in the form of duck breast / pineapple / long pepper / ginger and also the shoftshell Crab / fennel / passionfruit / cowslip creeper. Yet, it was only days later did we truly begin to appreciate this other new found confidence and rebellion.
Was it that there was not meant to be any star component? That the delicate touch and surgical-like aesthetic is now replaced with the creative overzealous of a stronger and heavier hand, and maybe we hadn't allowed ourselves to let go of the past and Chef Riley is again, ahead of the rest of us?

看過一部荷李活電影，男主角給人喝罵：You killed him! 你殺了他！ 他一臉不屑答：Yeah right. 哦，對的。之後控方就真的提出，說證人已認罪。
這個證明當然不能成立，因為不論中、英文或其他許多語文都一樣，日常生活中的對答，一定包括說反話。
就像有人憑空指你考試出貓，你只覺沒好氣，答：對呀！我還買試卷呢！按常理，就知道這回答只是句反話。
英文中一些用詞，聽上去好像十分正面，但意思恰恰相反，這就是不折不扣的反話。譬如說，He has a thin chance of winning，他勝出的機會很微。Thin chance 解作機會小，那麼fat chance 就等於機會大了？
不，不管 fat 或 thin，說的都是機會小；fat chance 的語氣更重一些，可以指完全沒有機會，更包含一點嘲諷味道。
• Do you think he's going to win this? 你認為他會贏嗎？Fat chance. 完全不。
一些英文習語，就像我們的成語，本身一般用作表達正面信息，但視乎上文下理，一樣可以用作反話。像要批評政府抗疫措施，中文措詞可用上「雷厲風行」一語，來增添尖酸刻薄之意。英文也一樣。Cherry on top 是指雪糕上的一粒車厘子，跟中文的「錦上添花」有異曲同工之妙，但實際運用起來，意思卻正反皆可。
• He was acquitted of the fraud charge. And for the cherry on top, the company is giving him his old job back. 他脫了欺詐罪。錦上添花的是，公司讓他復職。
· I kept re-running my cringeworthy meeting with him, and thecherry on top was that I was weak and headachy, a little bitqueasy. 我不斷回想跟他那個尷尬突兀的會面，而「錦上添花」的是，事發時我虛弱、頭痛及有一點暈眩。
類似的用法另有 to a fault，通常解作一個人的某些特質過了頭：He is generous to a fault. 他太慷慨了。
但用作反話，可以說 He's zealous to a fault，他熱心得過了頭，亦即等於說這個人 overzealous，瞎熱心。而 overzealous staff 往往是服務行業道歉聲明中的一個常用語：都是我們過分熱心的（因而幫了倒忙）職員不對。
另外有一句話，不正也不反，卻有許多人會誤會了意思：
• We can't be too careful. 根據字面，說的彷彿是「我們不可以太小心」？錯了，意思其實是「我們不可能太小心」，也即是說，沒有太小心這回事，我們必須絕對小心就是了。還有以下用語，它們又是不是反話呢？
1. I can't sing to save my life.
2. I can't do small talk to save my life.
這兩句話同樣不正也不反。自稱 can't do something to save one’s own life，是自謙甚至自貶的說法，是說自己完全做不到正在說的事，故答案是：
1. 我（五音不全）唱不了歌。
2. 我完全不擅長寒暄。

警察係要制約嘅，英國嗰啲都唔例外！

上星期英國政府比咗特別權力啲警察去執行家居隔離，除咗加強巡邏趕人返屋企之外，仲可以即時比告票。大家都明白只要多咗權力，白兔都有可能變癲狗，就係咁呢兩日英國唔同地區都出現警察「過份熱心」（overzealous）嘅執法行為。
例如防止遊客自拍，攞墨水染黑個藍水湖，唔比間士多賣復活節朱古力蛋，或者趕走坐低休息嘅單獨跑步嘅人。前法官Lord Sumption睇唔過眼，就好嚴正咁指出，警察唔可以因為抗疫亂晒龍令英國變成Police State，因為英國警察只係著住製服嘅國民（"citizens in uniform"），唔係聽政權指示嘅特權紀律階級（"members of a disciplined hierarchy operating at the Government's command"）。

（响人類社會裡面真正嘅問題，唔係自由比獨裁攞走，而係面對真正嘅危機而自願放棄自由嘅時候，啲權力被放大。依家最驚就係咁。）
文明嘅公民社會嘅好處就係咁，一講就會醒覺。所以啲警察高層即時話會出指引，因為唔可以令警察同社會對立（“not turning communities against us”）。

係㗎，建立互信係要好長時間，要破壞就話咁快。
