She faces a number of charges including the illegal possession of walkie talkies and breaking pandemic protocols. Suu Kyi denies the allegations. Analyst David Mathieson call it a "show trial" designed to discredit her and the opposition. According to Suu Kyi's lawyer, this first trial is expected to run until the end of July. And of course we are also doing this in support of our four ousted colleagues.” The entirety of Hong Kong's elected pro-democracy opposition plan to submit their resignation in protest over the dismissal of four lawmakers, after Beijing passed a resolution giving local authorities broad new powers to quash dissent. As Western leaders condemned the move, the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong pushed back, saying: "Hong Kong affairs are China's internal affairs. Any interference in Hong Kong affairs will be firmly hit back by all Chinese people, including our Hong Kong compatriots, and any attempt to play Hong Kong as a card against China will reach a dead end.”
