[Tuen Mun, Hong Kong] This picture was taken at Castle Peak Bay (青山湾), it was one of the earliest settlements in the present Hong Kong and it used to be home to many of the Tanka fishermen who live by the sea. The Tankas (疍家) or boat people are a group of sinicized ethnic group living in Southern China. Though many of them now live onshore, but some of the older generations still live on their boats and pursue their traditional livelihood of fishing. Today, Castle Peak Bay is rather slow-paced, there are several barbecue sites and recreational facilities such as the Castle Peak Beach and the Sam Shing Seafood Market. There are also some younger Tankas who are working in nearby towns, and they will visit their families or return to the boat over the weekends. 📍 𝔾𝕣𝕖𝕖𝕟 𝔼𝕘𝕘 𝕀𝕤𝕝𝕒𝕟𝕕 . . 🚣‍♂️ We (as in the hoomans, doggos had zero contribution. Except 🐺 Pretzel who whined the entire journey, not sure if he was cheering for us or complaining that we were advancing at the speed of a turtle... 🤷🏻‍♀️) kayaked from Clear Water Bay to Green Egg Island! It took around an hour and the hoomans, as amateurs, did a great job. They deserve a pat on the back for embracing through choppy water and safely getting us all onshore! 🏝 . . 🐺: But that’s not the end of the story!
