    กระทรวงสาธารณสุขสิงคโปร์บอกว่าการนับยอดผู้ฉีดวัคซีนโควิด-19 ในประเทศจะนับเฉพาะผู้ฉีดไฟเซอร์และโมเดอร์นาที่อยู่ในโครงการวัคซีนเท่านั้น แม้ไม่ได้พูดตรงๆ แต่วัคซีนทางเลือกตัวเดียวของสิงคโปร์คือซิโนแวค ทำให้สื่อตะวันตกและเอเชียหลายสำนักตีข่าวนี้ท่ามกลางกระแสความระแวงต่อประสิทธิภาพของซิโนแวค

    แม้ว่าวัคซีนซิโนแวคจะถึงสิงคโปร์ตั้งแต่เดือน ก.พ. 2021 แต่สิงคโปร์ยังไม่จัดซิโนแวคให้อยู่ในโครงการวัคซีนแห่งชาติ โดย สธ. กล่าวว่ากำลังรอข้อมูลเรื่องประสิทธิภาพและความปลอดภัย และถึงองค์การอนามัยโลกจะขึ้นทะเบียนซิโนแวคให้ใช้เป็นกรณีฉุกเฉิน โดยบอกว่ามีประสิทธิภาพพอสมควร แต่ยังไม่มีข้อมูลประสิทธิภาพของวัคซีนซิโนแวคต่อเชื้อโควิด-19 สายพันธุ์เดลตาที่มีความสามารถแพร่กระจายสูง ต่างจากยี่ห้อไฟเซอร์กับโมเดอร์นาที่มีข้อมูลว่าช่วยป้องกันได้ดี

    สำหรับวัคซีนซิโนแวคนั้นเป็น “วัคซีนทางเลือก” ซึ่งประชาชนมีสิทธิ์เลือกฉีดได้ แต่ต้องรับความเสี่ยงเอง โดยผลข้างเคียงจากการฉีดซิโนแวคจะไม่เข้าข่ายการคุ้มครองตามโครงการช่วยเหลือทางการเงินแก่การบาดเจ็บจากวัคซีน (Vaccine Injury Financial Assistance Programme) ซึ่งคุ้มครองเฉพาะวัคซีนในโครงการวัคซีนแห่งชาติ

    ปัจจุบันสิงคโปร์มีการผ่อนปรนมาตรการป้องกันการแพร่ระบาดแก่ผู้ที่ฉีดวัคซีนครบ 2 เข็มหลายประการ เช่นไม่ต้องรับการทดสอบก่อนร่วมงานอีเวนต์ (Pre-Event Testing) แต่ผู้ที่ฉีดวัคซีนซิโนแวคไม่ได้รับการยกเว้นตามมาตรการดังกล่าว

    ทั้งนี้ ข้อมูล ณ วันที่ 3 ก.ค. ประชากร 5.7 ล้านคนของสิงคโปร์ได้รับวัคซีนแห่งชาติแล้วแทบทั้งสิ้น แบ่งเป็นผู้ได้รับวัคซีนโดสเดียว 3.5 ล้านคน (ราว 61% ของประชากร) และได้รับครบสองโดสแล้ว 2.1 ล้านคน (ราว 37% ของประชากร) ส่วนวัคซีนซิโนแวคมีผู้ได้รับ 17,296 คน (ราว 0.002% ของประชากร ไม่รวมในตัวเลข 61% หรือ 37% ข้างบน)

    ก่อนหน้านี้สำนักข่าวเอเอฟพีเคยเผยแพร่บทความตรวจสอบข้อเท็จจริงกรณีมีข่าวบิดเบือนว่าสิงคโปร์จะจ่ายเงินให้ประชาชนไปฉีดซิโนแวคแทนไฟเซอร์กับโมเดอร์นามาแล้ว แต่ข่าวจริงคือ สิงคโปร์จะจ่ายเงินชดเชยให้ประชาชนที่แพ้วัคซีนหรือถูกปฏิเสธการฉีดวัคซีนไฟเซอร์กับโมเดอร์นา และต้องไปฉีดวัคซีนซิโนแวคกับเอกชนแทน

    Mr. Sessions,
    As a Professor of New Testament and an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church, (USA), may I suggest that you have neglected a few Bible verses in your justification of the oppression of asylum seekers. Among these are Exodus 22:21; 23:9; Leviticus 19:33-34; Deuteronomy 10:19; 24:17; Jeremiah 7:5-7; 22:3; and Zechariah 7:9-10. Further, I suggest you continue reading down to Romans 13:9-10. You see, Paul's own argument is this: "Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law." Thus, just law, in Paul's argument, is appropriately manifested in loving action toward one's neighbor. And should you seek to ask, "who is my neighbor," to this Jesus himself has a response in the parable of the Good Samaritan: Luke 10.

    But, you are factually correct in this: the Bible does record rulers ripping children out of the hands of their parents. You will find these in Exodus 1:15-17; and in Matthew 2:16-18. To be clear, the Bible holds these up as ruthless and unjust leaders of the people.

    Regardless of your policy decisions, which in this case the biblical witness itself condemns, please do not misrepresent the full text of scripture to justify the cruelty that you are imposing upon children of asylum-seeking women and men. They, like the Holy family of Matthew 2, flee oppression. And it is in their favor that the Christian scriptures speak, not yours.
