Getting back into training today was harder than normal this time. Usually not doing as well meant we may have missed work on a certain field of fitness and that becomes a new focus point for our next round of training. This time however, fitness wasn’t the problem. For this race, we trained harder and smarter than ever and aside from the temperature, we both felt sharp and ready to run with the world’s best. After beating so many races and even taking down Killington Ultra last year, we never thought the day would come where we would have a medical DNF on record. After proudly representing Hong Kong at the parade of Nations and receiving all the support and well wishes from family, friends, teammates and students saying they know how we will smash the course it really hurt to have both of us end our race at the medical center with hypothermia; shivering despite all the ice bath training we’ve done in anticipation of a chilly race and not having it pay off the way we expected😢😢 Some things we are grateful for were the amazing medics that took us in and made sure we felt better mentally and physically, and a huge thank you to @fernandocheinocr from Team Mexico for helping Kaity get out of her mental slump when she was beating her self up after being pulled out at the swim. Thing is... the medal this year looked sick and we really wanted it!! The stereotypical thing to say would be to suck it up and come back stronger. But I think we’ll be honest and admit that we took a big hit and need to air out for a bit... ...then we will come back stronger and more dangerous then ever! 💪 It something beats us, we will be back with a vengeance and they better fear knowing we are after them!
