    「In shape」と「Out of shape」
    =================================
    　
    Shapeは「形」というのはご存知だと思いますが、健康状態を示す際に「In shape」や「Out of shape」のような言い回しがされているのはご存知ですか？日本人にはあまり馴染のない表現かもしれませんが、ネイティブはよく口にする表現なので覚えておきましょう。

    1) In shape
    →「健康的」
    --------------------------------------------------
    　
    In shapeは体が健康であることを意味します。特にランニングや筋トレなど運動をして体を鍛えている状態を表します。しかし、筋肉ムキムキのマッチョな人や引き締まった体の人だけに限らず、多少ぽっちゃり体型でも運動をしてすぐにはバテないような人のことも「He/she is in shape.」と表現することができます。
    　
    ✔健康的であることをより強調したい場合は、in great shapeやin excellent shapeのようにinとshapeの間に形容詞を入れる。
    　
    ✔「体を鍛える・痩せる」はGet in shape、「体型を保つ・健康維持する」はStay in shapeと言う。
    　
    ＜例文＞
    　
    I ran with Tom last week and he was barely sweating. He's in shape.
    （先週トムと走ったんだけど、彼ほとんど汗をかいてなくてさ。健康的な奴だよ。）
    　
    He's 50 years old? No way! He's in great shape!
    （彼、50歳なの？嘘でしょう？良い体しているね。）
    　
    Summer is around the corner. I need to get in shape.
    （もうすぐ夏だね。体を鍛えておかなきゃ。）
    　
    What do you do to stay in shape?
    （体型を保つのに何かしている？）

    2) Out of shape
    →「運動不足」
    --------------------------------------------------
    　
    Out of shapeは運動不足であることを意味します。太っている、痩せているなど体型には関係なく、運動するとすぐに疲れてしまったり、息切れしてしまうような状態を「He/She is out of shape.」と言います。
    　
    ✔Get out of shapeは「運動不足になってきた」を表す。
    　
    ＜例文＞
    　
    He was huffing and puffing after one lap. He is out of shape.
    （彼は1周走っただけで、ハーハー言っているよ。運動不足だね。）
    　
    I'm running out of breath climbing up these stairs. I'm so out of shape.
    （この階段を上るだけで息切れするなんて、運動不足だ。）
    　
    I feel like I'm getting out of shape. I need to get back in the gym.
    （最近、運動不足気味なんだよね。またジムに行かなきゃ。）

    3) In good/bad shape
    →「体調が良い・悪い」
    --------------------------------------------------
    　
    運動しているかどうかには関係なく、単に「元気だ/元気ではない」という意味で「体調が良い/悪い」を示す場合もIn good shape/In bad shapeと表現します。また、ビジネスなどの調子が「良い/悪い」の意味としても用いることができます。
    　
    ✔Goodの代わりにgreatやexcellent、︎Badの代わりにterribleやhorribleなどの形容詞を用いてもOK。
    　
    ＜例文＞
    　
    You look like you're in good shape, Tim.
    （ティムさん元気そうだね。）
    　
    He came down with a flu. He's in terrible shape.
    （彼はインフルエンザにかかり、かなり体調が悪いです。）
    　
    Our business is in good shape.
