Hotal Colombo @hotalcolombo is part of Blacksheep Restaurants @blacksheeprestaurants and it celebrates the colourful, vibrant food and culture of Sri Lanka. This “everyday canteen” is inspired by the egalitarian eateries that spill onto the streets all over Colombo where these canteens are often called hotels or hotals, despite not offering any rooms for boarding. The restaurant serves authentic Sri Lanka cuisine and dishes here are made to be shared. The Crab Kothu was one of my fav and made of chopped up chicken, veggies and egg which had all been fried together and delicately spiced. The dish was moreish and made better with the addition of pickled chillies on the side. You shouldn’t miss the Egg Hoppers as well which pancakes were made to be torn and swathed through Sri Lankan chicken curries. A spate of new cafes have opened in Nibong Tebal and Hey JoJo Cafe is probably the easiest to locate for those who are not familiar with the town. The cafe is easily noticeable shortly after turning out from Jawi Toll, it occupies a prominent corner lot of the a newly developed commercial area. The aesthetically pleasing minimalist interior decor has attracted cafe hoppers' attention. The place is popular for its cakes but it has a main menu worth-checking out either. Such a cute pastel-pink facade 💗 Loved Sri Lankan native @chefgizzy ‘s vibrant and spicy dishes! Hoppers ($88), typical Sri Lankan bowl shaped pancakes made from fermented rice and coconut milk were amazing!
