覚えておきたい、衣類用語を使った英語表現

「二足の草鞋を履く」や「馬子にも衣裳」など、日本語には衣類を用いた慣用句がたくさんありますが、英語にも同じような表現がたくさん存在します。そこで今回は、日常会話でよく耳にするフレーズを4つご紹介します。どれも、直訳では「？？？」となってしまいますので、ここでしっかりイディオムとしての意味を覚えておきましょう。

1) Put oneself in someone's shoes
→「人の立場になって考える」
--------------------------------------------------
　
「自分を相手の靴の中に置く」と直訳できるこの表現は、自分を人の立場に置いて物事を考えることを意味します。Shoes（靴）をsituation（状況） に置き換えると分かりやすいでしょう。特に悪い状況や苦境に直面している人の立場で物事を考えるニュアンスが含まれます。
　
✔その他、「◯◯の身になってください」を「Just imagine how he/she feels」と表現することができる。
　
＜例文＞
　
You have to always put yourself in the customers shoes.
（必ずお客様の立場になって考えるように。）
　
Just put yourself in my shoes for a second.
（ちょっとは私の身にもなってください。）
　
Just imagine how she feels. It must be tough.

→「積極的に力を貸す / 全てを捧げる」

「自分が着ているシャツまで人にあげる」と直訳できるこの表現は、積極的に人の手助けをし、最大限の援助をすることを意味するイディオムです。特に、友達や家族だけでなく、時には他人にもお金や時間を費やし協力するような寛大な人を示す際に用いられ、とてもポジティブなニュアンスがあります。
　
✔Generousよりも寛大であることを指す口語的な表現。
　
＜例文＞
　
He'll give the shirt off his back.
（彼は人のために最大限の援助をします。）
　
I would give my friends the shirt off my back.
（私は友達のためなら何でもします。）
　
She's so generous she'll give the shirt off her back even to strangers.
（彼女は他人に対しても手助けをする、とても寛大な人です。）

3) Tip one's hat to someone
→「脱帽する」

この表現は、尊敬や感謝、敬意を表す時に使われるイディオムです。努力が報われた人や、大きな出来事を達成した人に対して、「I tip my hat to him/her」という具合に使います。Tip one’s hatは帽子を軽く持ち上げる仕草のことで、野球選手が記録を樹立した時や引退試合などで、ファンに向けて帽子を取る動作をイメージすれば分かりやすいと思います。
　
︎✔「Take one’s hat off to someone」とも言う。
　
＜例文＞
　
I tip my hat to you for your effort.
（あなたの努力には脱帽します。）
　
I tip my hat to her for her accomplishments.

この表現は、心の内を隠さず考えていることや感じていることを率直に打ち明かす人、また嬉しい時や不満を感じていることが顔に出るような人を指し、日本語の“分かりやすい人”と似た意味合いを持ちます。
　
✔基本的にはポジティブな意味として使われるが、感情をストレートに表現するため、傷つきやすい性格とも捉えることができる。
　
＜例文＞
　
My friend wears his heart on his sleeve so I always know how he feels.
（私の友達は感情をストレートに表すタイプなので、彼がどう感じているのかいつも分かります。）
　
Andrew really wears his heart on his sleeve, doesn't he?
（アンドリューは本当にわかりやすいよね？）
　
He never hides his feelings. He always wears his heart on his sleeve.

This is a scaffold design of my original project. At the same time, it hides my solution for adjusting the tightness of the butterfly joints. I don't know if you can understand it. This program should be used by both mask players and original characters. But I see this as a temporary solution. The long-term solution should be tested on the female body first.
